95 VW golf III 2.0 - HELP

95 VW golf III 2.0 - The engine cooling fan will not shut off at all.
The sixty dollar a sensor switch has been replaced but the fan continues to run.

What next do I need to check on this Jokes Wagon?

It's not mine just trying to help another GERMAN.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Can't help ya even though I have a '95 myself. Maybe Jake will chime in.

But I think it's Mexican, not German...

next up, I'd unplug the temp sensor in the rad. If the fan shuts off, the sensor is bad.

If that doesn't work, try to run the interior fan on high for an hour or so. This sometimes causes the heater controls to catch fire. Let the car burn to the dirt, take what you can get from the insurance co.

fking VWs

Edit: Which switch was replaced? The one on the rad, or the actual relay under the coolant resevoir?

the fan control is bad , or the afterrun relay. unplug the control unit by the collant bottle(in front between the battery and the bottle

Also check the defroster - the defroster runs the a/c and the fan.

Only sane advice is to burn it to the dirt! Hey you done that clutch yet??

FWIW, I just did a headgasket on a friend's 95 Golf.

When I was buttoning everything back together, I noticed the fan was switching on & off. This was with the ignition off, the car hadn't even run it two days.

I pulled out the relay/controller under the coolant bottle to test my spare one, and noticed it had coolant sloshing around in it. The little cap over the 30 amp fuse was missing, and when it was overheating coolant was running down into the controller.

I drilled two small holes on opposite corners of the bottom, let all the coolant drain out. Works fine now, not sure how long it will hold up.

Haven't done the clutch yet, but now I can't drive in 5th. Too much slippage.

I'm going to get stranded any day now...
