Commercial w/ Frampton rocks
Is it Geico? Not sure but Frampton is behind the lady speaking and doing his 'feel like i do' routine. at the close of the commercial he gets a little flashy (don't know what else to call it) and it is just fantastic. that type of playing just rocks!
mom always said i'd regret not paying attention to piano lessons but she was wrong; i regret not taking guitar lessons!

I was listening to Frampton Comes Alive on the drive up to NJ the other day. I explained to my Chinese wife that this is the guy in that Geico commercials. But there was just no way to explain to her how huge he was back in the day. I was in grade school and had that album.

Funny you mention that commercial. I was watching tv with my pop on Christmas when it came on. I asked him who the guy playing the guitar was, never heard of him. He looked at me kind of funny and gave me a brief recap of the 70's.
Cool sound, I'll check out some of his music. |

Are we talking about Peter Framton?
I always liked his version of 'Signed, sealed, delivered'.

Actually, I thought it was sad. He was so big, and now, look at him...at some commercial! Don't get me wrong, I am sure he still has $$ pouring out of his ears.
But them again, I have known 'stars.' To quote, "It hurts so much to be a nobody when you used to be a superstar (a someobody)!" No $$ can fill this void of theirs. |

Chris, you must get Frampton Comes Alive. You will recognize several of the tunes on there. He was bigger than Michael Jackson or Madonna ever were. But it was short-lived.

I was just watch some YouTube of him yesterday.
As a musician, I appreciate most music. I "know" almost every tune. The melody that is, after I hear the first few bars. I can't remember names of tune or artists, however. 70's and 80's rock is what I work to...Or brazilian jazz. KT

Let's take this back even further, shall we? How 'bout some Humble Pie along with Steve Marriot and the boys, circa 1970...

From what I've heard, Frampton lives in Ohio and does the house-husband thing. He pretty well set now (even though he lost everything in the crash of '87). He doesn't need to work anymore and he only does concerts when it fits with his schedule. He will do small shows. Heck, he played Ribfest in Naperville a few years ago. He plays because he wants to, not because he needs to.

Actually, last year he was featured in a concert that was broadcast on one of the HD channels here. He sounded better than in '76-'77. It was amazing how voice and guitar were not compromised one lick.

I'm sure Frampton is happy as a clam nowadays. He can do whatever he wants, can go out in public without getting mobbed and the only ones who'd really recognize him would be the diehard fans and guitar players. He played some county fair in Allentown, PA a while back and my old guitar teacher got to be his roadie for the night. He said it was one of the biggest thrills of his life, as he's a diehard Frampton fan from back in the day. Peter signed the back of my buddy's Les Paul that night too.

I was a security guard when Frampton was a headliner in a Music Festival near Austin TX in the mid 70's. 100k people there easy. Saw him again in Will Rogers in Ft Worth, 4th row center, in the much smaller venue (maybe 4k) in the early 80's. Great show both times. Mostly the same songs.
I've heard it said that 'Framptom comes alive' was so successful that it ushered in the Corporate Accountants to the Music World. Wasn't it the biggest selling album up to that point, above the Beatles, Stones, and all? edit my bad, it was the biggest selling album of 1976 is all, according to Wikipedia.

That boy can whale on a guitar. I always liked Frampton. I would guess he is very happy with his life, more so than 1980, and have no doubt he would tell you so if you asked.

Yeah but what about the hair? He is just not the same without the hair....
Anyone else notice they now have electronic devices to mimic the talking guitar sound he (and Joe Walsh) used to make? The old system had a tube running up the mike stand the they would put in their mouth and talk into as they played to combine the two sounds.

Yeah, I thought he used the original device in the commercial too. I thought it was called a Talk Box. FWIW, I think Richie Sambora used that same device in Livin' on a Prayer.
