I'm glad I took my time and found the right one (datejust) for me. It's a pre-owned 2002 and I bought it for approximately what a new Omega Aqua Terra (my second choice) would have cost me. I'm not too crazy about the band though. I have it up for trade on Timezone. I prefer the Oyster.

Actually, I'm kidding and can't argue with that logic. Most of my vintage Honda motorcycles were well under the cost of my watch. But, I have 7 vintage motorcycles! If I keep buying bikes instead of a nice watch, I'll run out of room! Fortunately, I'm not in an "either or" situation. If I need Porsche parts, believe me, I'll get them. Food and tuition for the kids? Bahhh!

Congrats! Glad to see you get something that you are proud to wear and happy with.

BTW, the band to have is the "round back" as opposed to the "flat back" style on the earlier models. Offered back in the 1960's and 1970's they are hard to find in good condition but really add to the value of the watch. My GMT had it stock and just found enough parts to overhaul it on Ebay a while ago.

All of the recent models have the "flat back" band so yours has what it left the factory with.

I was going to ask "those in the know" here, how should I work the trade? I know it's a "step up" according to many including Rolex. Should I ask for $$ plus the trade? I don't want to be greedy, but I don't want to be stupid either.

I paid $367.00 for my Submariner back in 1976...AFFES cataLOG .... military sales. I've worn it every day since the day I received it .. it has over 1000 skydives... a couple of malfunctions.. multiple hard landings.... been through two wars > Desert Strom and 2 tours inIraq... plus a couple of TDYs in Afghanistan.....I don't wear it when I work on the P-car... had it "serviced" once.... It doesn't keep the greatest time.... is a bit slow.- maybe 2-3 minutes a week ... but it's tough.... and it's part of me.....

McQueen must have been gambling his money away. No gold in his Rolex? Terrific actor. Underrated. Made a bunch of great movies. Met his squeeze once, Ali McGraw, during the filming of the movie "Love Story." She looks a lot better on film.

Same here. My 18k gold Daytona was easy to find and only a couple of $$k more than the SS version that took over 10 years to find. The SS versions of the Daytona get snapped up the second that they come on the market it seems.

Actually, I just bought a Timex and it keeps the very same time as a Rolex! Go figure.;)

Maybe you should drive a Yugo, get you back and forth, cheaper, less gas.

When a friend of mine (lives in Fox Point - you're a local and know the area) bought an Explorer II 10 years ago (seems like yesterday!), I asked him if it was really accurate. He just shrugged his shoulders and replied, among other things, "Oddly enough, it's not." He further went on to explain that accuracy wasn't necessarily the point. That sounded really odd to me at the time.

Now, ten years later, I understand completely. No sense trying to explain it beyond what has already been said. I think it's strange, however, that anyone on a Porsche forum would question buying something that's finely crafted and clearly not for everyone.

Is there a Rolex that keeps time? Mine stays 10 minutes fast no matter what. Go figure.

I'd wager if you would have it serviced by Rolex in Dallas, you'd get one back accurate to within a couple seconds a day. All of mine work fine.

Thats what I'm doing, the damn crown finally popped out, Rolex says that if they can prove that the shop that worked on it last did a poor job they will pay for the repair. Problem now is finding this special packing tape they insist you use to ship it to them.
