Project manager, it's almost always work at home, and on your on your own hours. Many of the PM's I worked with at IBM were stay at home mom's and dads. A place like IBM pays north of a 100k for that position and it only requires managerial skills.

What happened to your car flipping business?

It's hit and miss. I did make a few bucks last year with cars. Logistics are a challenge as I have the rediculously small lot typical of Phoenix and a strict homeowners association. Plus, as a wholesaler, I can only sell to other dealers. Being a retail dealer involves having a lot (and regular hours).

I met a retail dealer who I'll be talking to at the first of the year. I may be able to buy cars and sell them retail through him. There's definitely potential playing with cars, but I've yet to come up with the formula that translates into regular income.

Buy low sell high. anything !

Anything service industry oriented. Figure out what you wouldn't want to do for a job, like work at Starbucks or the TG&Y, and go from there. I bet in Phoenix, a middle-aged guy who can speak English w/o a thick Spanish accent, would be a welcomed asset anywhere. You'd probably get to make your own hours, achieve some benefits and possibly profit sharing. Who knows? Worth a try. It'd at least be low stress.

I looked seriously into the M.A.R.S. program until they asked for the 49K franchise fee!

But you can still make ok money with them and not go franchise, right? Anyway, $49k seems pretty small for a franchise fee.

bt1211 12-23-2007 01:35 PM

Sorry, what are M.A.R.S. programs?

I second the medical billing/coding. You work at home and make your own hours. My wife is a nurse and is thinking about getting into the billing and coding because she is sick of the crap from working in an office.

+1 if it's the type of business you'd like to run. The owner requires that you do a local assessment of your territory to see if you'll have enough business. This is for you to make sure and for them to ensure they set you up for success. Not all franchises do this.

What is "medical billing/coding?"

Are you paid by the the number of bills/forms you complete, or by the hour?

What type of pay is it (how much can one expect to make)?

It's a company that reconditions used cars for dealers before they are resold. I think it's some detailing and some paintless dent removal.

I know the GM for one of the largest Ford/Mazda dealerships in Phoenix. He says there's a constant parade of guys through his store offering to do this work.

It's sad that so many scammers are in business trying to sell work at home schemes. It shows just how many people there are trying to figure out a way to earn money from home. If somebody could figure out a way to legitimately put all that talent to work it would be a win-win situation for many.

This company is trying to do just that: http://www.tentiltwo.com/
Still, it seems most of the jobs they have only pay $12-$14/hour.

It's a dead end unless you own a large medical billing company. They typically make $15-20/ hour.
