One thing for sure - he got religion after we killed his daughter (US air raid noted above) -- but he IS showing other -- ah -- leaders in the area how to be smart and go with the flow (of history).

The US want to isolate Iran as leverage in negotiation.

Iran and the US are historical natural allies.

The big US goal is to ensure Russia is neutralized.

The small US goal is to leverage Iran against the Arabs.

Bush wants a legacy besides starting a war in Iraq and leaving it unstable. The nuke issue is out of the way and details have to be finalized.
