Can anyone understand Shannon Sharp?
 

This is not a black or white issue. This is a I don't understand what the hell he's saying, (CBS NFL coverage; pre, halftime, & post game shows) issue. His job is to talk, to communicate with the audience. But when he says things like:
"Rany Mo scor three touchdo wif hep of Tom Brady" (Randy Moss scored three touchdowns with the help of Tom Brady), I just shake my head and turn the channel. Mr. Sharp has a problem saying his S's
I understand people have been successful working on TV with a speech impediment, Barbra Walters and Tom Brokaw come to mind. Although they had an impediment you could still understand what they were saying. One of the problems is, especially at half time is a time constraint. So add a bit of black accent or lingo if you will, an impediment, & a time constraint, (he's talking very fast), I'm clueless, most of the time as to what he's saying.
Does he have pictures of someone in a compromising position? I really don't know how he keeps his job.

Yeah, he reminds me of Mushmouth from Fat Albert.

I think the stations bank on the personality rather then the quality of the broadcaster. What else could explain the terrible applicants they have like Sharpe.

and why is it he can't pronounce ASK but can say Escalade ?? LOL

I lived in Epping for 15 years before moving to this god-aweful state. Sure do miss it. I'll have to take a drive up this summer

Talks too fast, and uses run-on setences that never stop and go round and round, lots of pro football analysts do this like Mike Ditka or Jim Miller on Sirius NFL Radio, they just talk and talk and go around and around in one big long setence touching on about 12 points to make one point that they could have just made in 1 setence to begin with, now this is something that a lot of people do unconsciously because their brain is going fast, really really fast in some cases, and they are trying to get their mouth to catchup with words and the thought coming from their brain, but usually the brain, which is on its own timeframe, beats the mouth and the words just get faster and faster, and more and more slurred and run together, which makes them very hard to understand for the average listener who really is just kicking back on a Sunday with some chips and a beer wanting to watch football without having to analyze each and every word out of 1000 words that the analyst just spat out of their fast moving mouths.

He's not quite as bad as deon sanders. Neither one have mastered the english language.
What you have to ask yourselves is, who are they really talking to? Not me, not you, they are speaking to someone who speaks like they do.

Ever listened to a beautiful young blonde chick who "upspeaks" through her nose??? I have the same problem...can't understand what she is saying. But damn, she looks so good while she makes noises...

I was almost thrown out of high school because of an English teacher that couldn't speak English. She spoke ala' Mr. Sharpe.

The year was 1979. It was the day before Christmas break. My English teacher was a lady, about 50-ish. She was an American, same race as Mr. Sharpe.
She stood before us and told us,
"Claa! Ov'r Chrimah holidey I wan' you to reae "Unkl' Tuh Cablin'" Whin yu com baaa yuu'lll hav' a tessss."

I asked her, "Mrs. "X" (in case a relative reads this board) what did you just say?" She repeated it. I still didn't understand. I asked again. She repeated it again. I still didn't get it and said so. She said, "Bouy, You jus tieyin' to be smarrr. Git douwn to de' officsse. We gunna pu' u outta skoo.""

I honestly did not realize my English teacher just told us, "Class! Over Christmas Holidays I want you to read 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.' When you come back you'll have a test."
Then, "We're going to put you out of school!" Presumably because I was being a smart-arse, I suppose?

To say she sounded like Eddie Murphy's rendition of "Buckwheat" would not be correct. I could understand ol' Bucky. But her? hardly.
When she told me to get out and go to the office I didn't quite have it all but I caught "go to office" and went. The principal, a closet case man with a bad toupee asked why I was there. I told him what Mrs. "X" said. He just shook his head and told me to wait until the bell rang then go to my next class.

As far as I know she contiunued to teach English for many more years... may still be there, I don't know.

Y'all should quit yer b!tchin and turn on the closed captioning. :)

Seriously, one time I had on the closed captioning for some show I was having trouble following semi-mumbled dialogue and I didn't turn it off when the eleven o'clock news came on. When it got to the sports, there was a segment on some college bassitball game.

The closed captioning worked fine until the interviewer stuck the mic in the face of one of the star players on the winning team, and he launched off on his excited ebonic mumblethon.

The closed captioning came to a dead halt.

He's there because most of the audience does understand what he says, now do you get the message.

This is hilarious, he's there for the gangsta/wrappa audience.

I work in Guyana, the former British Guyana, been here for a decade and sometimes I still can't understand the lazy English the guys speak, thats all it is is, lazy english and a couple of months in speach therapy and maybe Shannon will keep his job.

I'm going to try that next week.

That's the problem, he is keeping his job :confused:
