'02 Dodge Ram Quadcab - Simple Ventilation Question

Well, I guess it must not be THAt simple if I can't figure it out.

On one of the air vents - when you move the little..."chingus" in the middle of it for changing the direction of the air vanes...only the middle "vane" moves, not all of them. Seems like something is broken or disconnected behind the dash and should be easy to fix but I can't figure out how to pry the vent out of the dash and don't want to just get in there with a small screwdriver and
b!tch up the dash.

Anyone have any experience with getting one off? I wonder if prying will get it out or just break something? Does the dash have to come apart? There are NO visible screws of any kind...anywhere on it!

If Dodge is anything like Ford, they like to use spring-loaded metal clips that will tear up their plastic retaining holes if you try to remove them--giving you a lifelong dash rattles that will never, ever go away. (Not to mention the dash face will never sit right again.)

If your dash is the same as my '99, they pop right out.

The front tab connects to the center vane. On the rear of the vent, there is supposed to be a bar that connects all the vanes. This allows the center vane to move all vanes.

I would guess that either the bar is missing or the center vane is broken on the rear where the bar attaches.

I pretty much figured there was something missing (fell off) or broke.I just haven't tried to pry it apart yet to see. Mine doesnt look exactly like this '99. The '02 is the first of the next generation body style but does bear a resemblanc to your pictures. Maybe they are made by the same supplier, sothe same way of mounting in the dash? I'll give it a VERY gentle try and eee if it wants to come out. Thanks for the pix.
