Spr 453
In the search for a trap gun for my wife...
I took my wife up to Cabela's last weekend and had her hold an 11-87 and an SPR 453. She liked the feel of the SPR 453 better. The bonus is that it is cheaper than the 11-87 and it has an adjustable gas system (meaning that it has better odds of cycling when using lighter trap loads). Looks like I'll be picking one of those up in February (three-paycheck month ;))... |
speaking of light trap loads do not be afraid to try 1oz loads (or even 7/8oz if the gun will cycle them). BIG difference in recoil between 1oz and the more common 1 1/8oz load.

I've not had a SPR in my hands but fear it will be similar to the Charles Daley auto shotguns that were made in Turkey. I think there'll be a big difference in quality compared to the 11-87. If it's just for trap shooting would an 1100 work out?

At least by me, 1100's are more expensive than 11-87's. I've also heard both can have problems cycling when using light loads (hence the appeal of the SPR453). My wife wants something with a synthetic stock, so that leaves out 1100's too.
I've checked on huntingnet.com and they seem to be well liked. I have the SPR310 over/under, and I really like it, so I know Baikal is capable of building a decent shotgun. Either way, I will probably end up with an 11-87 eventually. ;) |
Yeah, I'm getting one of these:

Well, I ordered one yesterday. Should be here on Thursday. I traded my POS H&R 929 back to the dealer too as part of the deal.

Well, it's a beast:
