Do I Keep All These Magazines?

I have almost 10 years worth of Excellence and Panorama. I'm getting ready to put them in plastic bins and into storage. Or do I just toss them out? When will the collection ever end?

I just pitched all of mine. It's an individual call, but there is just so much a soul can save. It is like moving. In the first 90 days you will unpack 90% of the things you brought. Ten years later, the othe 10% will still be packed.

Purge. Purge, dear boy!

If you don't want them, I'll take em:D

Wife had 25+ years of Rolling Stone.

Every issue.

Could not give them away.

Finally pitched em.

Happier that way.

I'm sure you would Beermisteir.

Indeed, I have a similar collection, very hard to dispose of... I keep thinking "what if I buy a different model Porsche?", surely I would want to go back and read all the past articles about that model. And so, there sits my ever increasing collection.

I get about 3 to 5 mags a day at work. I review all of them and tear out articles of interest and pitch the rest. Once I have the articles of interest I will either write up a one paragraph on it for future ref or e-mail the author for more details or look on-line for a dig version which I will C&P into a file.

This has saved me a ton of writing time and also provides a quick reference library for me (until my harddrive shyts the bed!).

Why pitch them? Ebay them. That way someone else can enjoy them, and you'll have more cash for parts...

Porsche-O-Phile 01-03-2008 02:39 PM

Library?

Well, since I rest my head in more than one place & work out of a few too, I like to have mags at each location:D

BTW, I am now The Beermisteir to The Dark Side DEs.

I have picked up a few years on Pano for free off of a PCA member, I also bought a box of Excellence magazines off ebay for cheap. Dont expect to make a pile of money but there are people out there who would like them. Post them on craigslist.

Find some kid who wants them. Put them in your trunk, and first kid that seems to notice your car, offer him the magazines.

When I was a teenager I would have slapped my nanny down for a collection of magazines like that.

ebay.

Chocaholic 01-03-2008 04:11 PM

Too bad they're not printed on soft paper. I could find a use for them.

Tossed mine.

What I've been doing is donating them to my local public library. That way if I ever need to refer back to them someone else is storing them for me! :D

Good luck!

When I was a teen, I saved all of my Road and Tracks and Car and Drivers. I still have them, and check them out every now and then. Pretty cool, mainly because it brings back so many memories, given that I read each and every one of them cover to cover multiple times as a kid (and practically memorized all of the Porsche articles).

But these days, I just read then toss all of my excellence, Pano, autoweek, and the half dozen other car mags that I get. It's just not the same anymore.

I quit Pano (quit PCA), cancelled EXCELLENCE. Evren has the 40 years of PANO, gave all my Excellence back issues to Randy Webb. Still take C&D and R&T, tho I often wonder why. Nothing new, automotively, excites me much these days.

The car magazines I still take? I recycle them by taking them to the Barber shop.

Maybe it's just getting older...a sense you've seen it all before?
