National Champions?
If OSU loses, it is going to be very interesting to see who winds up being #1. Kansas just made their pitch, and only losing one game to the #4 ranked team in the nation at the time has them in a perfect position if there is a split. I just can't decide if it's going to be a two, three, four, five, or six way split. Mind you OSU has to lose for this to happen.
Co- National Champions shared by W.Va., KU, Mizz, Georgia, and LSU, with perhaps, dare I say, no, it can't be, USC. This would have been a really good year to test a playoff format. I don't think any voter in their right mind could give sole dibs on being #1 team in the land to LSU if they come out victorious. What a mess, six potential national champions in the same year. Kind of makes you want to root for OSU doesn't it?

No 'splits' this year. Thats the whole reason #1, plays #2 and the whole BCS thing. When LSU wins, they will be # 1, no need to go any further.

No need to argue about the system huh? Shirley it can't be broken.
Unfortunately you are right according to the polls. I just can not, for the life of me, understand why one of those two teams is even in the position to have a chance at being the outright #1. It's completely fuched up. There were a lot of voters whoring for one team who isn't any better than 5 others. I don't think that they have it right, I think a schit load of people think they don't have it right, and most likely the poll voters don't think they have it right. Who gets the crystal in NOLA doesn't really matter a lot to me, I whore for nobody. I see several teams that would be deserving of the title of national champions should OSU lose.

Think what you like. Slammin' Sammy & RoachBeGone would argue that USC is the best in the land if they were 0-12.
This is not all that complicated. The recognized, NCAA, National Champion, will be recieving the crystal football on Monday. This being America, you have the freedom to call anybody you want, the best. That wont change who is the NCAA Champ.

glad the NFL is not like this...otherwise the pats would not even need to play another game! Wildcard teams could go all the way to the superbowl, win and still not be the champs.

What the NFL needs is some astute observers, like we have here. They can go & watch a couple of practices, and crown the Champion.

What mule says is true. The BCS may be good, or may be bad, and probably will be changed some day, but as it stands today, the National Champion is decided in the National Championship game.
Outside of that, there are just a bunch of polls. Under the current system, winning a poll does not win you a national championship. That must be done on the field, in the BSC National Championship game. The NCAA has agreed to that, and all the teams that participate have agreed to that. But, like Mule says, if it makes someone feel better to claim to be a "national champion" based on the result of a poll that is not, under the current agreed upon system, recognized by the NCAA, they are free to do so. There are a million polls to chose from, so like Little League baseball or the special olympics, just about every team can claim to be a "champion." |

Man, I thought this was going to be about either the red sox or the patriots (possibly soon to be) or, rising up quickly - the celtics.
Back to work...

Pipe-dreaming.
Hawaii hadn't gotten their a$$ess kicked that bad since Pearl Harbor. I left the game at the end of the 3rd quarter. And if Hawaii, why not the undefeated Tulane team a few years ago too? |

that is my point...schedule and votes determines that teams even when undefeated can't be the champs? The best fix is a playoff system of some sort, otherwise the only true winners are always going to be the same..the Corporate Sponsors and the same teams year after year.

Their "division schedule" as you keep referring to is absolutely 100% meaningless. The patriots beat the chargers. They beat the colts. They beat the cowboys. They beat the steelers. They beat every other good team in the entire league except for the packers and maybe jax. They had the absolute toughest schedule of ANY team in the NFL by far. NO OTHER TEAM had a schedule that was even close to being as tough as the patriots schedule. I challenged you to come up with a schedule that was tougher than the patriots schedule and you drew a goose egg. Instead you wait until a different thread comes up and suggest the patriots had it easy. You'll get owned again, and you'll wait for another thread to come up and post the exact same BS a third time. When does it end? Saying the same BS over and over until everyone gets used to hearing it will not make it true. Diarrhea of the mouth and LSU fans seem to be synonymous. |
