Get ready Cali...

The rain's coming. 5 inches predicted in L.A., with 75 mph winds.

In the grocery store today, you'd think a hurricane was coming the way people were stocking up.

Remember, it's location, location, location - unless your location slides away.

Good luck! SmileWavy

Not worried over here. Well, I do have to navigate our lovely freeway system in the morning. I'l bring a camera. :)

cl8ton 01-03-2008 10:38 PM

As long as the temps are up there, hell it’s a tail gate party!

What will you say this month when your driveway washes away?

Jays72T 01-03-2008 11:11 PM

"Storms" in CA tend to be weaker then the weather people make them, it's crying wolf, I don't believe them anymore. I hope for rain though, could use it.

ZAMIRZ 01-03-2008 11:28 PM

Off to Vegas tomorrow AM, good luck fellas...I heard we're in for A WILD ONE!!! LOL...

Dan in Pasadena 01-04-2008 04:43 AM

I think we'll get a lot of rain, but I agree the local weather people get all breathless and over the top when anything approaching real weather MAY happen here.

I heard the 75 MPH wind was only for the Antelope Valley (that's out in the "used-to-be-desert-but-now-is-a-bedroom-community") for all you non-L.A. guys.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-04-2008 05:52 AM

Pfft. Not worried.

The hardest part is going to be getting my running/cycling in over the next few days. I hate going in the weather.

The good news is it'll wash all the crap off the roads. And maybe help to replenish some of the reservoirs a bit.

Considering taking Monday/Tuesday off for skiing too. I haven't been in years, but this might be a good opportunity to go.

widebody911 01-04-2008 05:56 AM

I was pretty windy up here last night, and it seems like we got a fair amount of rain.

Vipergrün 01-04-2008 06:02 AM

Oh no, it's STORMWATCH 2008, with every news stations posting a raincoat covered camera crew and reporter on every corner... Let these fools spend a winter at my house and learn what a real winter is :)

Moses 01-04-2008 06:25 AM

It's blowing hard now. Rain coming down sideways. Ugly. There will be great skiing in the Sierra's next week!

I dropped off my new skis for adjustment at Sports Chalet/La Canada night before last. My girfriend and I are taking the last week of the month off and heading up to Tahoe. I can't wait. The website for the resorts we're going to are predicting an "epic snowstorm" for this weekend. Their use of "epic", not mine. They claim 5 to 8 FEET of snow are coming. I figure a lot of it will still be there when I get there on the 25th.:D

I haven't skied for various reasons the last two season. Really looking forward to this!

By the way, I started the morning up in Pasadena and now I'm in L.A. and not only has a drop not fallen so far, the skies are blue here! DOH!

charleskieffner 01-04-2008 06:33 AM

abc news reported 12" INCHES of rain possible in southern calif. this am on way to work and up to 10FEET of snow at tahoe.

that aint a lil storm!

heres how it works here in az. and yes i have my own lil weather station and rain gauge. actually just updated weather station w/digital setup. on top of that i have OFFICIAL CAREFREE NOAA WEATHER STATION here at airport to confirm all weather events.

2 inches of rain ........washes are running.

4.5 inches of rain and trees are floating down washes and all roads floodprone become.......IMPASSABLE! unless of course yer the really STOOPID GUY in the hummer who thought he could cross cave creek wash. or the women in the new beemer 325i or the ..........you get the picture.

now normally all rain coming from baja or la area is depleted by going over open dezerts. butttttt........if 12 inches hit arizona...........im putting my DRYSUIT ON and grabbing all the scuba tanks i can or climbing black mtn very quickly!

very dark/forboding clouds over airport right now. ooooooga booga!

Moneyguy1 01-04-2008 06:38 AM

You guys hog all the rain and we get the dregs. Overnight we got enough to wet the driveway.

Big deal.

Long Beach METAR & TAF right now:

KLGB 041553Z 11005KT 10SM OVC055 13/08 A3012 RMK AO2 SLP198 T01330083

KLGB 041405Z 041412 10007KT P6SM SCT012 OVC035
TEMPO 1417 BKN010
FM1700 11012KT 5SM -RA BR BKN008 OVC020
FM2200 14014G20KT 3SM RA BR BKN007 OVC015
FM0200 14016G25KT 2SM RA BR BKN007 OVC015
FM0600 17020G30KT 4SM RA BR OVC007

If you believe the TAF, it's supposed to roll in here in an hour or so with ceilings & visibility falling. But the METAR tells another story. High pressure (30.12) and looking out my window, the "overcast" at 5500 is pretty thin. Lots of breaks in it. So I think this is going to take a while to get here. We'll see.

Reminds me of the "Storm of the Century" billings the Boston-area newspeople would give to upcoming Noreasters about 2 or 3 times per winter.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-04-2008 07:42 AM

That just tells me it's a slow news day.

Sensationalism is so overused by the media as a way of selling advertising it means nothing any more.

Ooooga Boooga indeed. Its gotten darker and darker here in L.A. just since my last post a few minutes ago. I wish I had a barometer to see what the pressure is doing. Mostly, we'll just get wet, its those hill people in the huge fire areas that are gonna eat it.

.....and maybe never more so than on the subject of rain in Southern California. Oh well, means I'll get to look at Jackie Johnson, MaryBeth McDade :D and what her name, the new one? Elita Foresca or something like that. She's an ethnic cutie.
