Computer network problem

I though this problem was related to a portable hard drive I was using, I stopped using it and now I have the same problem again.

I can use my Autocad application and see the Network just fine. Well, I can see past file paths, we just created a 2008 folder and I cannot access it.

If I go to my network and search for the server its not there, but Autocad is pulling files from it.

If I try to search for the network I get this error. I rebooted my computer but not the router. I am going to try that now.

Suggestions?

This is the error I get if I try to look at my network.

Hey Jim,
Was the 2008 Folder created on the Server?
Can you login to the Server and browse the network and see your PC?
The PC you are using to access the network is it a member of the mshome workgroup (network).
Verify by going to >Start > Settings > Control Panel > Double Click System
Click on the Computer Name Tab and half way down see what "domain" you belong to.

what about the file/folder permissions on the new folder? Just a thought.

Check if the "computer browser" service is started in the services control panel.

I shut down my computer for the weekend and restarted this morning.

I cannot see the network at all, if I click on Network Places, there is nothing there.

BUT, if I launch an application like Autocad, I can see old network paths but not new ones. So my Autocad can see the network but my computer is acting like its not there.

Rob - When I do that I see my workgroup but still cannot see it in my network places.

Maybe run the "network wizard" on all of the computers again. Make sure you re-share the files and printers. I've had my network "forget" it was a network on occassion. A real pita when I lose my printserver.

I just made the mistake of trying Vista (3rd time-what was I thinking??). It will not interface with my existing network. Oh well -new dell xp on the way. :(

Never mind, suddenly all my network connections have shown back up.

Jim,
I experienced many issues like the one you described when I was running WinXP Pro on all the PC's and a Windows 2003 server and a few external hard drives and network-attached hard drives for backup. Before the holidays, I installed a Windows Home Server and migrated all of my PC's (except one) to Windows Vista Premium and haven't had a single problem. Printing, network browsing, digital camcorder imports, etc... all work and no "network issues" since I did this. Something you may want to think about...
