Holy @#$%@! Merry X-Mas from the Chandler Police Dept.
Courtesy of our hard-working Postal Carrier, my wife just received $570 worth of photo-radar tickets from the Chandler, AZ PD. All 3 tickets ($190 each) feature lovely pictures of my bride, her license plate, and her tell-tale magnetic "I support Chinese Magnet Manufacturers" sticker. Two are even from the same intersection on consecutive days.
I'm f*cked, aren't I? I just blew nearly $600 and I don't even feel good about it.

What??? Buy a V-1! The cost is offset the first time you avoid a radar ticket...

Umm, you're doing it wrong - where I live, I didn't blow $600 - my wife did. doesn't affect me a bit
![]() That said, I've been dinged on the same zone twice in one week - it sucks. AM

LOL Andrew, my wife is a "homemaker". Whatever costs she incurs are borne by the head of household. Namely...me.
Does a V-1 do any good against those stupid photo-radar cameras?

V1 will have no affect on those who "hurry through the yellow". I'm assuming these are running red light tickets. Certainly they aren't monitoring speeders and sending them tickets?
I would consider going to the intersection in question and confirming the timing of the yellow light. Your traffic laws will probably show a minimum time requirement for the light to be yellow before it turns red and triggers the camera. Many municipalities use the "quick yellow" for revenue generation. Just a few tenths under the timing requirement and you'd be surprised how many people get tagged.

They tried this racket in CA a few years ago, and got themselves laughed right out of court. It may be different in AZ, but they don't give speeding tickets via "photo radar" in CA. They still try to give photo red light tickets in CA, but this will likely fall by the wayside too... Try to research web sites in AZ that fight this type of ticket. Here is an example of one in CA to give you an idea. http://www.ticketassassin.com/whyfight.html Good luck, and let us know how this turns out!

In Colorado, they're required to put an orange construction-type sign 1 block ahead of the photo-radar that says
"PHOTO RADAR AHEAD." No, really. And you know what's even more stupid? I still got nailed once. Only $35, though. I must have been changing channels on the radio, drinking coffee, texting, putting on mascara, or some other driving-related activity.

They have Crown Vics in DC sitting by the side of the road with a cop asleepat the wheel and the photo radar on autopilot. They are easy to detect with a detector, the best of which costs far less than that $570. Now, if those tix were for running red lights, I don't have much sympathy. But if they're speeding tix, I'd fight them.

Aaron,
Tammy would like more details. What intersection was this? How many miles over was she going?

Photo RADAR will be picked up by a V-1...it's no help on the red light cameras, but damn...they are sooo easy spot, (at least in Albany, Oregon) it seems to me only the blind get caught by them.

Almost any local prosecutor will cut you a deal on three tickets at almost one time. Set them down for a court trial or first appearance, whatever you do in your area, and have your lovely bride show up and ask if she pleads to one if they'll dismiss the other two.

At least in Metro Denver, we only have photo-radar for speeding, no traffic lights.
And, you get a fine, but they don't put it on your record. No points, no insurance hike. |

In Chandler Az. now, soon to be coming to all cities and towns nationwide. Sad, but you know what they say; "its for the children, save the children". Wow, $190 for a yellow light, tell her to STOP next time.

OK, these were NOT for running a yellow/red light. The intersections were Riggs and Gilbert (twice) and Ocotillo and Arizona (once). All three times were "57 in a 45". Which strikes me as odd, especially as I have never known her to EVER use cruise control.
As for her being blind...yes. We won't go there.

Did you test her "Magnetic -I support Chinese magnet manufacturers" sticker for lead?
Use this as a defense and plead partial impairment. Happy New Year John_AZ |

if she was stopped by a patrolman at the time of the offence she would've had the opportunity to not speed the other 2 times by learning from her mistake, however she had to wait until the ticket showed up in the mail.
