Any other Firefighters or paramedics on here?

Just curious if we had any other firefighters or EMTs on here. I know we have a few LEOs.

I'm not a Paramedic, but I have played one on film/TV (Hard to Kill, Doogie Houser, Chicago Hope, ER, Grey's Anatomy)

Interior Firefighter, EMT, Dive Rescue and (soon) Advanced Rope Rescue.

Unfortunately, the last few months have been very busy at the job, and I haven't been around the station much, but that'll change soon.

My brother is both an EMT and FF here in Gainesville, what job he's doing on a particular shift changes with staffing levels. Although I do think all FFs are EMT trained these days here in Fl... (I seem to remember him saying that)

firefighter, EMT/Wilderness First Aid, Ice Rescue Tech, Search & Rescue & Ski Patrol, all formally trained but done on a volunteer basis in upstate NY. I actually retired at a reasonably young age so still had time to do these things. Some days I take a lot of aspirin.

We Americans love acronyms, Markus.

LEO= Law Enforcement Officer (Police officer)
CDF= California Department of Forestry (people who fight wildfires/forest fires)
FF= Firefighter/Fireman (or woman)

I grew up with a Fire Chief father, that was pretty cool. Learned CPR when I was 11 years old.

and EMT = Emergency Medical Technician. In New York State there are 4 levels: CFR (Certified First Reponder, which is basically first aid), then EMT Basic, EMT Intermediate and EMT Critical Care -- with increasing scopes of practice. An EMT-B cannot have venous access, push drugs, or intubate, for example.

Top of the line is Paramedic.

Many moons ago I specialized in petroleum and metal fires. Trained at Texas A&M and trained and Instructed at Univ Nevada Reno (dodd beals) and occasionally instructed at the del val training facility. Confined space, attack teams, surround and drown. Did some paramedic training but never completed it. Only highlight was a letter of accommodation from the mayor of Santa Fe Springs after the big Malibu and Laguna fires.
After a while I saw things I didn't need to see and it wasn't fun anymore and gave it up.

Was an EMT/Paramedic for years. Have not renewed it for a while, just do not need it as I am too damm busy as it is.

Medivac pilot for 20+ years.

Still is good to have the knowledge and hope I never need to use it again.

Exactly. How many hours I spent at the station thinking "dammit, wouldn't somebody please wrap their car around a tree or have a furnace blow up." There are so many fewer fires and accidents than there used to be ... Getting people to train and stay current can be tough.
