Scottsdale ?
Me and some buddies plan to spend a few days this Spring in Scottsdale for some golf, but we definitely want to stay somewhere close (i.e. walking distance) to nightlife, dining, shops, and, well....nightlife!
First thought is to get a nice hotel in Old Town, but we're also open to suggestions elsewhere in the downtown area. No plans to rent a car (shuttle or cab from/to airport & golf), so the priority is to maximize our accessibility by foot. Did I mention nightlife? Thanks for any input.

The two closest hotels to Old Town are the Marriott Suites Old Town on Third Avenue and a Hyatt. I stayed at the Marriott at the end of November and highly recommend this very nice hotel. This is less than a block away from the Old Town entrance.
Not sure what you mean by nightlife, but there are a few nice bars in Old Town. They're not boom-boom clubs or anything though. But they are nice and fun. Was only there three nights, so if you define what you mean by nightlife, maybe there's another area someone else can recommend.... Last edited by cool_chick; 01-09-2008 at 02:17 AM.. |

Scottsdale is a car friendly city. I would rent a convertible and stay at the Camelback in a villa. Walk from the villa for 18 holes. Afterward, relax by the pool. For fun, rent a Harley and cruise up Apache Trail. Ruth's Chris (great steak) is a short drive one way, old town the other way.
Did this 2 years ago. It was great. |

A "nice hotel" in spring may be a reach depending on you dates. March 2-23 is packed with an early Easter-23 March and typical spring break and baseball spring training. If your dates are set try to have your corporate travel agent get a room. Do Not go for any hotel listed as South Scottsdale. Many of the properties are near the airport or an area of Scottsdale needing revitalization.
If you do change your mind and rent a car, head north to the 4 Seasons Resort at Troon or the Boulders Resort and Spa. Both have excellent golf. They do have private shuttles to pick you up and taxi you around for a fee(from $70+ airport to hotel). If you are really connected, golf at one of the Desert Mountain courses. Locally we will be hosting the Superbowl in February. Just like the Fiesta Bowl, many people stay in Scottsdale. You can rent my mountain 3/2 home for $2000 a night and cleaning deposit ![]() ![]() April? May? John_AZ |

The JW Marriott in Desert Ridge is excellent. You might check with the Kierland Westin as well.

I lived in Scottsdale for 2 years. If you want to do anything at all, rent a car. Not many places withing walking distance of your hotel.

Thanks for the feedback. We're planning on early May. We're targeting the entertainment district bordered by E Camelback Rd, N Scottsdale Rd and N Miller Rd.
cool_chick, Marriott Suites Old Town is one of the places I've considered. Some others are Hyatt Place Scottsdale/Old Town, Hyatt Summerfield Suites, and Hotel Indigo Scottsdale. Just based on a map, these all appear to be very close to a bunch of bars and night clubs.
