Any Honda Trail 90 collectors in here? Got one that won't fire

Buddy is restoring a 1970 Honda trail 90. Was running fine when he began disassembly. After reassmbling, we are not getting any fire to plug. All electrics work (lights, horn, brakelights, etc). There is fire to the coil but not out of the coil to the plug. Points are opening and closing. Replaced coil and condenser to no avail. Ditto plug and plug wire.

Any ideas?

i have no idea;

but....are parts hard to find? i know of a perfect gem hidden in a garage. the lady asked for $300...but i always go to her house to fix things, and do chores that are too heavy for her. she is about 70, and lives alone. the thing is dusty, but from what i could see in the dimly lit garage, it is perfect. what do you think? i would love to do a restoration on something i could set ontop of my workbench. besides it would be the coolest pit-bike.

There is quite a cult following. A nicely restored one can fetch $2000-2500. A perfect low mileage oginal will get $3K or more. Beat up but complete and running go for $500 and up.

I'd snag it if it looks like it would clean up well.

Parts are radily available...there's a company in Asheville NC that can get just about anything you want.

I would check the ground. If you are getting 12v to the points and the coil, but no spark out the hi voltage end of the coil, it's either the coil, the wires, or it's not going to ground. Also, make sure you are using a brand new plug, not a cleaned up old one.

Cool bike btw. My wifes 1st was a Honda Trail 90. Mine was a Trail 70.

If one is not careful, it's easy to have the wire going to the point either touch ground or become grounded within the points assembly. Use a volt meter or test light and make sure your points are "in fact" acting as a switch...

Not to hijack, but I've got a Honda 70...that I know nothing about it really. Someone stood it next to a dumpster and abandoned it. I have no paper for it but just took it and stowed it for a couple of years. It is all there except the plastic leg guards (I assume it had those once). How do I know what year it is? Where's the VIN located?

My son took it apart and the inside of the engine had water so it has rust. I'll try to post a picture of it tomorrow but it isn't a closeup. Any advice on whether this would be a fun semi-restoration job or just a money pit would be appreciated. I might just sell it for the parts, or as a parts bike in total.

There is/was a member from NJ that restored Honda 70s...I believe his ID is Paul Anderson. Anyone remember?

I think you can buy a new (chinese built under klicense from Honda) 90 cc engine for less than $200 including carb.

Most nights I cry myself to sleep over my long lost SL90. Saw one on EBay, but it was $$$$ - broke my heart all over again..
