Anyone install Vista SP1 RC?

I think I will wait till June for the final release - anyone try it yet?

I did. Pretty nice too. It cleaned up all the little nagging issues I had except I still have slow file transfers from a server. And based on the classic "butt-o-meter," it feels a bit faster too.

Hal,
I changed my mind and installed it tonight, everything went smooth.
When it rebooted the last time, it said my validation key was invalid. This happen to you?

I had to call MS and get a new key - no big deal but definitely inconvenient. The rep said anytime you make changes to the system you will need a new key. Strange when one of the changes SP1 makes is to get rid of the so called 'kill switch'. Pirated copies of Vista are now supposed to operate in full function mode once SP1 is installed.

I agree that it does 'seem' faster, although I have only been using SP1 RC for about an hour.

MS just recently installed an "update" automatically on the computer I'm using.... No choice, no pertinant information given.

I have no problem (willingly) buying something I understand and accept, but, somehow I don't feel this computer "belongs" to the "purchaser".

Randy, no problem with having to re-register. But I am running a retail copy of Ultimate versus Home that came on my PC. Did you get the disclaimer that you will have to uninstall RC1 before installing the golden code?

Yep. At that time I probably will have to call MS again to get another key. I wonder if it is because my reg key is a re-registration key from MS's call center. A very quick phone call for calling a huge corp and actually talked to a human from India. My copy is Home Premium which originally came installed on a different retail computer.

I have Ultimate on my notebook - we'll see what happens when I install.

John, Do you have the updates set to manual update?

I did run SP1 Betta on my laptop, and removed it last week for the SP1 RC update. I did notice it fixed a few bugs, but did not like the "Beta" copy text in the lower corner...went back and now waiting for the full SP1 through Windows Update.
