Anyone ever get these strange phone calls?

Over the past few weeks I've received several strange phone calls, but due to luck they've all gone to VM. The person on the other end has that bored sound, like they're reading from a script for the millionth time: Hello [name] this is [some weird name] calling from [can't discern due to accent] calling to tell you that [you've won|we have a check for you] for [large amount of money]. You must please call us at XXX XXX-XXXX as soon as possible. Congratulations on your good fortune, have a blessed day I got one just a few minutes ago, but I was on the other line and it went to VM. I know it's a scam, but it seems like a lot of work for a scam.

I heard if you key in ########## when you get a recorded telemarketing call, it gets your number removed from the system. KT

The scam is that to claim your money you either have to pay, or you call a number that charges something like $10 a minute or $25 a minute or something ridiculous like that. People do call, it's amazing what greed and stupidity will allow someone to do.

Or just add your name to the Do Not Call registry.

Do you get hang ups? Hitting VM is actually a Telemarketing tactic. They don't want to speak to you live the 1st time. If they don't get Vmail they hang up. Rationale is if it's on Vmail they may have a better chance of you listening to the entire pitch.

Ever get the vm that starts out "Please press 1 to listen to this important message from so and so."? I love deleting those. I don't open junk mail and I make it a rule to never ever give my business to anyone who sticks a flyer on my front door knob, which happens several times a week.

I hate the "coupon" stickers that they now slap on the front of your daily paper.

I used to get the "breather"?? Never said a word. I assume it was my closet-homosexual Congressman? (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
