Lifetime Hunting License

Do all states offer a lifetime hunting license, or just the southern ones.

In NC I can get a lifetime hunting and fishing license for my son for $275. The only catch is it has to be before his first birthday.

Peppy, NY State has a number of options, ranging from $50. to a whopping $600. for a combined lifetime small game, big game, fishing license for age 12 and over. $180 for lifetime bowhunting and only $50. if you are over 65. Glenn

I know IL does; it's something like $575. Which is a steal if you're in to hunting at all, considering that just archery deer costs me $50/year.

Could turn out to be the best $275 you'll ever spend with how much possible time you can spend hunting and fishing with your boy.

Yes, in Cali you can get a lifetime license. It's based on your current age at purchase and how much the fees are. You still have to buy stamps every season for deer, fowl...

CA has it indeed. This is only good for people that never move. I doubt you can move and come back from out of state later and claim in state hunting privileges.

George, The requirement to renew in Cali, is to have any expired Cali License. Mine is nine years old, I can walk in tomorrow and get it renewed. I think that if you move out of state, then move back, it would be possible to renew - provided you have kept an expired CA license.

Quote from CDFG:
" Q. Is the license valid if I move out of state, either temporarily or permanently?
A. You must be a resident to purchase the license, but after the purchase, it will be valid for use in California for the rest of your life, regardless of where you reside."

"Q. Do I need to provide proof of hunter safety when purchasing a lifetime hunting license?
A. You must submit one of the following as proof of hunter education when purchasing a lifetime hunting:

• A California certificate of hunter education completion or equivalency with a California hunter education validation stamp;
• An annual California hunting license issued in any prior year;
• A two-day nonresident California hunting license issued after the 1999/2000 license year;
• A written declaration that you had a California hunting license in any prior year, but that license is now lost or destroyed;
• A certificate of successful completion of a California-approved hunter education course from any state or Canadian province;
• A current hunting license or a hunting license issued in either of the two previous years from any state."

Slodave,

I was joking. Say you live in CA, get the lifetime license but then move to NV. While you still live in NV you want to hunt "out of state" in CA - that wouldn't be possible with the lifetime license.

Alright, just passing on the info. The rules seem a bit convoluted to me.

Peppy--Nebraska offers a lifetime license for around the same price range you listed.

If your son decides to move out of state, later in life, he can return and go fishing with his old man without paying the ridiculous out of state license fees.

I bought my son a Lifetime Sportsman's License for his first birthday. This includes both hunting, and fishing. You have to purchase the Duck Stamp separate every year because waterfowl are federally controlled. The license cost $100 when purchased before his 1st birthday. It would have cost more afterward, but I don't recall how much.
It was a crap shoot whether he would ever use it, but the money went toward game conservation, so I felt that it was worth it.

Here in Fl. you can get yearly, 5 year, or lifetime. Also don't need one if you are under 16, over 65, military with orders for florida but not a florida resident, or handicapped/disabled - well, you need one, but they are free....
