Any health food store should have it - get the 100% raw psyllium, not the stuff that has other ingredients in it.

I think that large intestine is full of _______, if you know what I mean. :)

Be sure to do a Google on psyllium and follow the directions on the label of the psyllium container. Some folks can have some discomfort the first time (sorry for the double entendre) . . . and drink lots of water!

And, I am not a doctor, so please do your own research! Psyllium works really well for me if used occasionally . . . you don't want your body to become reliant on the psyllium purge.

Best,

Kurt

Here's a good link re psyllium:

I'm no expert, but any kind of colan cleansing should be followed by an intake of enzymes as the cleansing strips your body of them. You should look into this too and ask your health food supplier, they'll likely know what to take following a cleansing program.

???

trekkor 01-27-2008 11:46 PM

I don't know why, but this time I get the feeling your "Best" should be followed by some sort of sarcastic, snickering smiley.

Am I right? :D

That scene from "Dumb and Dumber" with the "Turbo Lax" comes right to mind. :o

Psyllium is great. Two table spoons stirred in an 8 oz. glass of water, then drink immediately (it starts turning thick and gelatinous as soon as water hits it). Force yourself to swill it down quickly, without pausing. It doesn't taste repulsive, but it aint exactly tasty. Then drink another 8 oz. glass of water.
Drink at least 6 more 8 oz. glasses of water during the remainder of the day.

If your diet is really high in fiber, the need to do this probably isn't all that great, but most people don't eat enough fibrous foods daily.

If your diet is good I don't think stripping enzymes is a problem - but check anyway.

Been following this routine for many years. Clockwork daily regularity is the result and that's a big health factor that isn't often talked about.

Also, have as much sex as possible.

Sapporo Guy 01-28-2008 02:07 AM

OK, I'm in.

183cm/85kg
6'/187lb

Goal is to be at 80kg (176lb) -- only 9. By the end of the year ;)
I feel better at that weight. Plus, all my clothes are that size

I didn't see too many mention motivation or "award". Some here have mentioned the motivation but you should really have an "award". sounds childish but ... hehe ... can bet that wife that you will make it and in return get a few parts without her complaining ;)

Here's a few points that might help:

* set a deadline with a weight amount. Post it somewhere that you will see everyday. Has to be handwritten.
* try to set on-the-way markers, for me, 1 pound per month.
* stick to your regime like it was mention above (80/20) I would say 5 days out of 7 :)
Come on! The buddies are gonna come over and you're really gonna stick to NO BEER today?!?! righhhttttt ! So, just blow the day off. Start up again tomorrow. If you're gone for the weekend and slip, start up on Monday. You HAVE to restart or what is the point in starting!
* stick to moderation. If you can't jog/workout everyday from the beginning. Don't. Go slowly. Walk a little more, use the stairs more often, etc ... take it easy in the beginning.

My diet is simple.

fruit for breakfast. Or any predigested nutrient. No heavy foods, they tire you out anyway.
Large lunch if possible.
Cut back on serving size for dinner.

I have terrible eating times and this is a large problem for me. I can't always do the 3 hours before sleep. Working on this.

The water thing is important. 2-3 litres a day
Stop beer and move over to something with less calories. The Japanese have a potato alcohol which will give you that buzz without the major hang over.
I have heard that 1 glass of red wine is actually healthy for many people (depends on drinking problem)
1 glass helps you to chill out too.

Walking requires about at least 30 minutes before any effects take place (or so I've been told).

Now, go take a drive in your 911.
Think about all those you have to do things around the house and to your car :)
Think about all those parts you could buy if you cut down on that extra doughnut/beer.
Stop posting here in OT and start reading 911 Tech Forum again. :P

When you go about checking off things on your todo list, you are moving around. Less time to hang in front of the screen and drink beer or eat chips and smoke. If did the things around the house that your wife told you 5 years ago, she'll be happier ( = can buy more parts)

After completeing house work you are free to work on the car :) Now, you have to figure out how many beers you have to skip to buy the new muffler (or what not)

Now, you're probably laying on your back, fixing your car. Extranuous reaches and poses have started to get to those other muscles you didn't et to use when cleaning the house, or better yet, you can hold those awfult poses for a longer period and getting that dam bolt in is no longer a beer/smoke break :)

Once you've come this far, a walk with the wife around the block gets you more action and hopefully you can bother her about her hips ;) ahhhh, life is going to be good again!

One thing though, I'll miss many of you since you'll be too busy posting here :(

Now, I should quit talking and get back to work on my bedroom remodel

lendaddy 01-28-2008 05:59 AM

I've been eating better(calories and junk food) but no loss. I need to add activity and get on a better system.

911Rob 01-28-2008 10:04 AM

Carsten,
That was a GREAT post!

I've been doing exactly that all my life for financial gain; never thought to apply it to my health gain. I'm gonna set some goals to paper today.
Thanks!

Len: I hear ya buddy!

trekkor 01-28-2008 10:18 AM

228.5 this morning.

Rob,
Glad that my post helped :D

lolo, those self-help programs can help in many different ways. I started looking into them to find something that might help me with my business and ex (not at the time). Then while listening I noticed that I could apply a lot of those techniques to other world examples.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the dating gurus did the same thing.

A real live example is Matsui from the Yankees (ex, Tokyo Giant player). His Japanese number was 55. The most number of recorded homeruns in Japan. He took that number and showed Japan that he'll be the next. He missed at 53 or so. But now he plays for the Yankees.

Definitely, writting down a goal or list is a great way to take care of things. Especially, when they nag you everyday.

cantdrv55 01-29-2008 01:42 AM

OK, I'm off to a really bad start. I've actually gained a couple of pounds since this thread began. Can't seem to stop eating junk food. I hope this rain stops soon so I can get back on my bicycle.

Trekkor, how the heck are you losing weight between work and all those track days you've got planned?

911Rob 01-29-2008 04:07 AM

Didn't get a chance to write out my goals, too much work to do today.
One of the boys sleds broke down on Sunday way back in the bush, 3 of us went and retrieved it today in some awful weather. We got er done though.
I'll get those goals onto paper and hopefully get serious about dropping some pounds too.

I posted my average diet a page back; anyone see any challenges with it? Thanks.
Cheers,

Big Ed 01-29-2008 06:29 AM

Rob,

The diet you posted looks OK calorie wise, my only thought was that it seems to be missing enough fruits and vegetables. In my case, my new diet is loaded with fruits and veggies and this has worked well for me because I can eat enough to feel satisfied, but without blowing my calorie goals.

Of course, YMMV. It is important to do what works for you.

You've got to drop the junk food and eat healthy moderate sized meals.

I have a nice sized breakfast and lunch. Small dinner.
Maybe some snacks. I ate some pecans last night.

I've been mixing mieral water with fruit juice. Also more than the usual plain water.

At a track day the food is usually catered. It's hard to resist piling the plate high. So far I've been OK there.

Another 1 pound lighter this morning! ( 227.5 )

Someone suggested to stop eating the moment you feel full.
It's amazing how soon that happens and how easy it is to over-eat.

Something that works very well for me is limiting daily calories to under 2000. I write down everything I eat and record each day's total calories. After a few days I tap into the obsessive, compulsive, addictive gene and it gets pretty easy. And, because my calories are limited, there ain't no way I'm gonna waste them on junk.

trekkor 01-30-2008 09:17 PM

I was 225.5 this morning... I wonder if the scale is getting tired of me?

911Rob 01-30-2008 09:49 PM

Thanks Ed, I'll take your advise!
More fruits and veggies coming right up.

JavaBrewer 01-30-2008 09:56 PM

Cut alcohol from your daily routine and you'll see another 8-10 lbs shed.

The wife and I love a bottle of wine with dinner. One glass preparing and the last glass eating. For the last couple years it's become a nightly deal. I've been having problems sleeping lately and decided to cut the wine to Fri/Sat only. Now 3 weeks later I'm not surprised to see my sleep gradually improving. Several years back I totally cut liquor as even one drink would ruin my sleep. What was surprising was how in 3 weeks, with no other diet changes, I dropped 8 pounds.

Now that I'm more rested I'm also finding I have more endurance at the gym and on my runs. I just may be on to something here...
