Check out my new rifle

Still working on the FFL exchange info, but the top one (Bushmaster A1 M4) in the photo will be in the mail to me shortly. I love buying guns online. I'm trading one of my Springfield 1911's for it even up. There's a gun show coming up in Feb., so I can buy all sorts of goodies for it.

Beard hairs get caught in the collapseable part, have to use the standard stock. Looks like too much barrel for the short handguards but is needed to stay legal. I bought a similar Colt many years ago, upon unscrewing the long flashider saw the barrel was 12". I didn't keep it for too long.

Nice rifle. I am a bit jealous.

VincentVega 01-14-2008 07:33 PM

Nice pickup. Did it come with a cleaning kit? :)

Made a good trade, just wish I liked .223...

911boost 01-14-2008 07:52 PM

Sweet man.

Here is a picture of my RRA Varmit .223. I also just used the Duracoat camo system from LCW on a Remington 870 home defense gun that I got for really cheap. Its in urban mirage flage, black, snow grey and a bit of white.

edit, I have since removed a spacer and dropped the scope closer to the barrell.

That's a beautiful weapon you have there. Prairie Dogs?

Jeff Higgins 01-14-2008 08:35 PM

What do you guys really use those for? They seem to have little practical use to me, and are anything but aesthetically pleasing, either. Don't get me wrong; I can see you guys have a lot of fun with them, but they are just not my cup of tea. Give me blued steel and walnut any day, in a fine single shot, lever, or bolt gun (in descending order of preference).

SlowToady 01-14-2008 09:08 PM

1. Target shooting / Competition

2. Prairie dogging

3. Coyote hunting. (AR-15 is like, the most popular Coyote gun)

4. Most any small game that can reasonably be taken with a .223

5. Shooting holes in bits of paper

6. The same thing you'd use any other gun for (if hunting, if it can reasonably be taken with a .223)

Practical use and Sporting Uses are mentioned above. And beauty is in the eye of the be(er) holder. I don't find these particular firearms pleasing, but I do many others: the H&K G3, FAL, AR-15 variants. I agree with you on preferring wood guns, all mine are wood, but you should still support someone else's right to own whatever firearms they like. As gun owners, we need to stick together as such, and not let the fact that certain firearms don't appeal to us drive a wedge between us.

*Note that I'm not putting words in your mouth, Jeff, saying that you don't support gun ownership or anything like that. I'm merely trying to reply to your post while also posting something more general based off of what you posted.

Nice choice! You may want to get an M4 handguard, the skinny ones heat up fast.

I use my Bushmaster Varmiter to reach out and touch ground hogs on my farm. They are a menace to machinery and horses. They often leave their dens in pairs so the semi-auto has come in handy.

frogger 01-15-2008 02:50 AM

Nice guns, guys. :)

Rick Lee 01-15-2008 05:04 AM

I just had to get this, as I'm keeping another one for a Pelicanite who's taking it back soon. So I wanted my own. I was shopping for a SIG 556, but my neighbor just showed me his and I'm not convinced they're worth almost double the price. Now, I have heard that there's a loophole in class III regs that allows people to buy full auto SIG 552 receivers and put them on the civilian semi-auto 556's. That's a fraction of the cost of the pre-86 class III guns. So if this turns out to be true and the BATF doesn't come after folks for doing it, then I'll do it in the near future. Getting a full auto SIG 552/556 for about $3500 would be the cheapest class III option in the US. But then .223 is crazy expensive right now, so semi-auto more affordable for me at the moment.

Me too!

Seems like you caught a few more Jeff.....:D

Tim Hancock 01-15-2008 07:51 AM

I use mine for varmints and plinking. I have a bunch of wood stock rifles that would also work just fine, but I always liked the look and feel of the AR's as they remind me of my younger days in the Army Reserve. Pretty much no good reason for owning it other than that I like it. Mine is a RockRiverArms, flat-top with a 16" barrel and mid length handgrips that I built up from a bare receiver using all RockRiver components. :)

My next gun purchase with either be a Glock 26 or some AR15 variant. As for now I'm waiting for my new shotgun to come in.

craigster59 01-15-2008 08:34 AM

I already have too many guns, but for fun and accuracy I have one of these. A Savage model 99 in 250-3000..

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200418315.jpg

but what I also want is one of these, a Swedish M41 sniper rifle in 6.5x55. I have a carbine, rifle and Norwegian Krag in that same caliber, a nice shooting round..

That's the best answer yet. I own very few guns that I can rationaly justify. And that's just the way it's going to be...

911boost 01-15-2008 10:53 AM

I use mine for prarie dogs and plinking. The wife likes to shoot it, as it doesn't kick. Its dang accurate as well.

I also have some bolt actions, and what not, just always thought it would be cool to have an AR variant.

That's what great about this country, if you want to spend the $$ on it, you can get it legally. Within reason of course.

Bill
