The train wreak had started.....American Idol '08

What a freak show. I can't stop watching it, it's like a derailment of a 1000 car freight train.:D

VaSteve 01-15-2008 06:13 PM

Yup. Apparently these people don't have friends to tell them they suck. Dreamers and fools.

Rob Channell 01-15-2008 09:56 PM

My wife and I think many of them had no siblings. Brothers and sisters would make sure you new exactly how much you stunk.....

widgeon13 01-16-2008 04:02 AM

How can you watch it, it's like fingernails across a blackboard to me!! Can't believe there are so many people who want to look and act stupid in front of millions.

URY914 01-16-2008 04:48 AM

It is a sad look at the future. These young kids are out of touch and will only get worse as they get older. There were a couple (2-3) hot chicks to make it worth wild.

Chocaholic 01-16-2008 05:09 AM

It's a TV show guys. Relax.

baldman 01-16-2008 06:57 AM

Yup, the American Idol tryouts are my guilty pleasure. Then I turn it off once the Hollywood shows start - it's not as entertaining.

I think a lot of the people are more about getting on TV than not knowing they sound like... well like me in the shower. ;)

widebody911 01-16-2008 06:59 AM

The real travesty is that there are idiots who actually watch this stuff.

berettafan 01-16-2008 07:47 AM

i'm not entirely comfortable with spotlighting some of the truly nutty folks. the grossly obese black girl (mom was on oxygen) and the crazy girl from allentown.....i dunno it seems like that part of the show is MAYBE one step above going to a mental institution and pointing and laughing.

Chocaholic 01-16-2008 08:24 AM

Jerry Springer.

There's an audience for anything.

+1

I won't watch the show.

Who you callin a travesty? I don't wear no women's clothes!

The girl from Allentown and her mother have some serious issues. They need to be watched.

From what I understand about the process, to get to Randy, Paula, and Simon, these people sing to several different judges. So some of them are only being let through because they make for good TV. (Whatever good TV is). They must send months in the edit rooms cutting miles of footage down to only 100 minutes for a two hour show.

Our opinion was that she was totally acting for the camera ... "I'll be waiting for you..." She's hoping she can turn it into some freak side-show like that Asian guy a season or two back did.

That obese 16 yr old black girl, hell her entire family, is in need of immediate professional intervention. What a train wreck.

This is the first Idol show we watched since the first season and probably the last. I really felt sorry for that black dude (tour guide) with the obvious mental problems when Randy and Paula were laughing their asses off. He totally didn't get it and that was truly sad.

My g/f noticed that the one of the contestant's huge ear rings would appear and disappear depending on whether she was singing or "talking" to the judges.

The way the show is filmed, it makes me wonder how many of the reaction shots of the judges actually goes with the singers we are watching or just stock filler material. Kind of like obvious body doubles in nude scenes.

So what is the alternative?
Barret Jackson on speed?

I just worked on my race car and went to bed early.

Craig 930 RS 01-16-2008 11:39 AM

Barrett....the ultimate greed-laden, wankfest, showoff bull***** festival.
Makes American Idol look intelligent

Seric 01-16-2008 12:03 PM

I liked the first couple seasons (tryouts), those were the truly dillusional freaks, now people do it to get on TV. Fake!

berettafan 01-16-2008 02:53 PM

agree that some folks will act dumb for the camera but how does anyone know the difference?

the black fellow that 'sang low' is certainly another great example. the difference with him is that he showed sadness on his face BUT that doesn't make it any more of a shame than allentown girl's wackiness.

you have to imagine that these folks have occasional moments of lucidity and they realize just how bad it is.......how badly must that hurt? to realize that you're different and something is wrong but you just can't fix it.

i guess i'm just a bit of a nancy when it comes to the mentally ill. i still remember the sadness i felt as a child when i watched the movie 'bill on his own'.

Sonic dB 01-16-2008 09:26 PM

It is on right now...for the most part the males have been terrible...
however an early front runner for the next American Idol will be
Kady Malloy, 18 year old from Dallas. She is good looking and has a
nice tone with good range and dead on pitch.

cantdrv55 01-16-2008 09:49 PM

I think there are three kinds of people who audition for Idol; the talented, the demented and those with really low IQ. It's entertaining as hell though so it's being Tivo'd right now.

Actually id prefer to watch Jilllian torture her trainees on "Biggest Loser".....

rcooled 01-17-2008 08:32 AM

American Idol is the current "leader" in a growing number of TV & radio shows patterned on the likes of Jerry Springer. Sadly, it seems that audiences for these shows are taking great pleasure in seeing other people put up for public humiliation. American Idol doesn't need to showcase these losers...there are plenty of truly talented people who could be featured on this show. It's the "freaks" that everyone wants to see....

I can't imagine not having Tivo or any other kind of DVR. The amount of commercials in AI and other shows is unbearable. I certainly wouldn't sit through 2 hours of it, but at 1:15 or so, it's a fun train wreck to watch.

Craig 930 RS 01-17-2008 10:43 AM

......and it would be DULL DULL DULL to watch 2 hours of pure talent. Too serious.
It's Entertainment, baby.

URY914 01-17-2008 10:56 AM

Would someone give Simon a shirt. I can't believe the guy wears $2.99 Hanes t-shirts on the show. Paula looks like a million bucks and Simon looks like he just came in from working in the yard.

I can't look at Simon. He has bigger t1ts than Paula.

ikarcuaso 01-17-2008 01:58 PM

Didn't watch. Did anyone tell Simon to "go back to British" ?

BertBeagle 01-17-2008 08:12 PM

My wife and I watched it for the first time the last two nights and one thing really stood out.

The difference in the people from the two cities.

What a contrast. Were the people in Philly putting on an act or are they really mostly a-holes?

In Dallas I don't think any (maybe one) of the losers had a cross word to say.

pavulon 01-19-2008 08:10 AM

Apparently the stress of volunteering for Am. Idol auditions pushes many of the borderline psychotics well into meltdown. I would imagine that these meltdowns are repeated weekly by most of them resulting in a lifetime of misery for those without talent. Successful entertainment psychotics may still meltdown eventually but a fortunate few can afford to do so...repeatedly... unless it kills them.

Occasionally someone outside of entertainment actually manages to become successful despite real mental illness. However, entertainment rewards people for avoiding reality (aka performing)....reality eventually punishes nearly everyone else for doing the same.
