COUPLE IN MYSPACE PLOT: DA

January 15, 2008 -- A pair of married strippers lured two teenage girls to their Queens home through MySpace, got them drunk and then raped and sexually abused them, prosecutors charged yesterday.

Julio Rojas, 31, and Sophie Soto, 22, were charged with 56 counts of sex abuse, promoting a sexual performance by a child, rape and conspiracy, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

According to the criminal complaint, Soto broke the ice with an under-15-year-old girl on MySpace. Soto allegedly claimed to be just 18 and a virgin who'd only been with girls before but who was leaning toward having sex with a man.

Soto told the teen she was afraid, and the youngster - who'd complained during one of their many online chats of having fights with her mom - offered to come with a friend to Soto's place in Corona, the complaint said. The two chatted online and on the phone, and eventually, Soto allegedly convinced the teen to send her 20 close-up pictures of her genitalia.

The teen's friend did the same at a later date, prosecutors charged.

In January 2007, the girls allegedly met with Soto.

At the her 104th Street apartment, Soto allegedly got them drunk, had them shower and then engaged in sexual acts with them.

Then, Rojas entered the bedroom and allegedly had sex with all three women, prosecutors said.

Later that same night, Rojas and Soto allegedly took the girls to a Manhattan strip club, which prosecutors did not identify. Soto danced on stage and pulled up one of the girls to strip with her, the complaint says.

Eventually, both teens stripped and participated in oral sex with club patrons as part of the show, the DA's office said.

They met up for drinks and sex in the apartment twice more in February - once with a third underage girl - and again in March, April and May, prosecutors said.

Rojas and Soto were both arraigned Saturday before Queens Criminal Court Judge Douglas Wong, who set bail for Rojas at $500,000 and bail for Soto at $250,000.

The couple did not make bail.

If convicted of all charges, they each face up to 15 years behind bars.

"The consequences of the alleged sexual assaults for the victims are profound and can well result in emotional trauma from which they may never recover."

The bust came as MySpace, which is owned by The Post's parent company, News Corp., announced an agreement with 45 states to implement tougher measures that will protect its users against sexual deviants.

Brown praised the move, saying, "This multistate agreement will go a long way in protecting those who are underage and vulnerable to predators."

So, what accountability does this club have allowing under 15 year olds through the door? And the relationship went on for several months?

This part keeps bothering me in this story. How can you claim to be violently raped when you kept going back? I realize there is statutory rape involved because of the ages, but this story makes it sounds like they were beaten within an inch of life while being raped or something.

There is a lot in this story that does not add up.

I've been to a few strip clubs over the years. I've never been to one that didn't card every single person who comes through the door.

I don't think that the article implies that there was a violent or forced assault, but it is statutory rape as they were minors. I have never seen anyone carded at a strip club, but I know the US has much stricter laws about the clubs then Canada does. I presume that is true nation-wide, although I'm sure some states are tougher than others.

Yes and no. If you "look" of age, a lot of bouncers will just let you by without carding. There were quite a few instances where i'd gotten into a SC and not been carded at all when i was under the drinking age. Of course if i did get carded i had a fake ID

I was 19 when I went to New York this summer. They did not card me or my friend when we went to a 21 and up strip club, but when my third friend tried to get through, they wouldn't let him in because he had on tennis shoes, so we ended up not actually going in because we did not want to leave him behind.

Also, The restaurants did not card us when we ordered drinks with dinner. Overall a great trip.
