Gotta agree on the SonicCare and the dual-monitor setup.
I haven't taken the plunge with the DVR yet. I suppose it is only a matter of time. My only complaint is that I'm afraid I'll watch more TV if I have shows at my beck and call. One addition to your list: an iPod. I was a late adopter, but I love having my entire music collection in one small device. I never have to choose what CDs to bring to the gym. I just grab the iPod and go. |
Dual Monitors. Yes.
|
Not to hijack, but what is needed to run the dual monitors? We have a ton of flat screen monitors sitting around here. Do I need some type of adapter, or switch?
I love my Tivo, I have no clue what I would do without it. Bill |
I'd like to think I could survive and get by without any doo-dads.
I don't know if that is really true or not. |
What about the apparatus?
|
DVR is fantastic.
Dual Mon is a must. |
+1 on the Dual monitors. its one of those things you just can't do without once you have it.
For those of you that don't believe turn you computer over, chances are you currently have a dual headed card already. Then do what I did. I dropped by the Good Will, and bought a 17 inch for 15 bucks, and I've been using them from that time. Also, I'd like to add Lasic surgery to the list. I got my glasses when Regan took office and the Eye doc told me I'd wear them till the day I died. After you get Lasic, you will wonder why you waited so long, and you will realize why in another 20 years only kids will wear glasses until their eye's stabilize enough to have this surgery. |
i am still fond of fire and the wheel.

A friend of mine explained Tivo very well when he said, "Tivo fixed my Television and I didn't even know it was broken!"
|
The valet stole the Swiss Army pen knife off my key chain. I really miss that thing. Seriously.
|
+1 on the TiVo. Cliche, but it really *does* change the way you watch television. One of the best tech devices I've ever owned.

TiVo Rules!
I can't believe no one has added satellite radio. I'm a big fan of XM. |
OK, it took me about two seconds to figure out the dual monitors. Thanks for the tips everyone.
I did have to fiddle with it for a second to get the mouse to move from one screen to other, etc, the way I wanted. Bill |
Wayne- I did not know that. I really hope you didn't just cost me money!!! :D
|
I used to run multiple monitors, then switched to a single 24" wide screen. I like it much better actually.
|
Having Tivo on my network is great! I'm able to access all the multimedia files on my computer and play them on my TV!
|
I don't run dual monitors, even though I do video editing and other tasks that could benefit from them. I actually set up a second monitor on my laptop today to run Soundtrack and ended up pulling it. I'm quicker with less real estate. At home a single 24" monitor does what I need.

Maybe a little behind times or just simi tech but I still marvel every day at my:
cell phone - The most amazing one on my list Tivo HD - how did we make it without it. How can it get better than HD? Garmin Nuvi GPS - One of the biggest time savers plus there is not subscription to pay XM radio - I like not knowing what is coming on next and that I will probably like it Wireless network at home and work - amazing Cordless phone at home that really works well use of Google (and the internet) - almost unbelievable - who puts all that stuff in there? Every time I use any of the above I smile and marvel at them. I'm easy to please. |
Don't know how I worked on the car without one of these...

ipod that connects to my alpine head deck. lolo, I'm a fanboi but resisted the ipod. Dam thing ... takes up too much of my time! I also bought the fm transmitter for it. That is wayyyy coool.
I've been thinking of getting that bluetooth parot thingy that let's you connect your radio with your cell phone. I hate using earphones. My dad's car has it built in. That is sooo sweet. Then again, his car is too. lolo, sound like a high school kid when I think of my Dad's car! been thinking of that headgear light ... thought it was a bit silly though ... hmmmm now, if I could have a remote controller that shuts off cranky girls ... :P |
I'm usually behind the times, but dual monitors is one of the best ones yet. I can't deal without it. I've tried one large monitor, but I like the way the screen is divided, that way it's easy to have 2 maximized windows, one input, the other output. With one large monitor I find myself fiddling with window sizes too much, with 2 I just drag, double click and move on.
My latest must have item is my new laptop. It's an asus eee pc. It's not a powerful do everything machine, but it's beefy enough to run firefox, openoffice, IM, RDP and ssh, which is about all I need. Wrap that up in a package the size of a hardback book and it now goes everywhere with me. There are now so many wireless spot out there where I can get real work or play done it's almost a no brainer if I should take it or not. only problem.. it can't run dual monitors :-/ but I've got my desktop at home and at work for that. |
Gee, and I thought I was "high tech" when I installed a factory CD/radio in my wife's car.
I have a DVD recorder though, Does this count? |
What in the heck can you do with two monitors that you can't do with one?
Well, I guess you could browse twice as much PPOT in the same time I guess. . . ;) |
Okay, I have to admit being techno-naive on this one. I've seen a few setups for hardcore day trading and stuff where guys have multiple monitors and many, many years ago I worked for a place that had a dual monitor setup for a CAD station, but how does one even go about setting this up? Do you need a special video card or something?
|
Most non-bottom of the barrel computers have 2 video outputs these days. Ussually it's one dvi, one vga, or dual dvi's. You can get an adapter for dvi to vga if you've got two vga monitors.
Plug the second monitor in, right click on the desktop->properties->settings->click on monitor #2->click extend my desktop onto this monitor->ok |
