anyone have one?? Keeping space with last years run of bad luck (my PC screwing up the last few months, until I ended up replacing it) my cell phone (life line for my work, both businesses) took a bath, literally thanks to Patti
and turns out that I only had maintenance, not replacement![]() Well, I have used the same phone service since 2000 (what can I say, I'm loyal, I still shop at the same bike shop that I did as a kid, Lake Shore Schwinn) so I called the provider, asked for a rep, explained my situation, and that my contract was up in 2 weeks. Well, I ended up with a HTC Touch and from some of the other site I go to, where people buy the latest & greatest, but I was wondering if anyone here has one??? What do you think??

Nice.
I have one of the older HTC's. The dial-pad on the screen is a PITA (no tactile feadback) so I use the slide-out keys or the voice-dial. Funny, The "Touch" came out before the iPhone, and long before the "iTouch" ...yet the Mac-fanbois think Steve invented it all.

I have the Samsung sch-i760. It combines a touch screen/secondary tactile buttons and a slide out keyboard.

The newer fanbois!
Not me ![]() Most of the time, I think that apple just says stuff to get the free advertisement because the PC world will shoot them down. ie the New MacBook Air. No, it's not the first and No it isn't the lightest. lolo I wouldn't have known that if PCWORLD (I think it was that site) hadn't written about it. Genius, to get free advertising. here's what I read http://www.macsurfer.com actually a page with links to articles.

Handwriting recognition? . .oh, right, the iPhone doesn't respond to a stylus (or a fingernail) so even if a someone made an app for it, you would be screwed.

I have a Touch. Got it the first few days it was out as a replacement for my 6700. I have been using WM5 for a few years and WM6 is a nice upgrade. Mine is hooked to my Exchange server, so it syncs via activeSync my Contacts, Calendars, email, etc...
I LOVE the form factor particularly compared to the 6700. I miss a keyboard. I haven't gotten used to the touch typing yet, but that's me, not the phone's fault. I wish there was an easier contact search feature that would work one handed, but thats a minor gripe. Battery life is good. Works with my Bluetooth gear. Plays music just fine. Good camera (no flash or light though). Has Sprint TV included which is very cool, and my Slingbox works too. If you are with Sprint, and you don't need to send a ton of email or text, then this is a great phone. If you need to send a lot of email, get the Mogul or the Q with their built-in keyboards.

I got the older WM5 ATT 8525. I find it difficult to not have it around. Browser, outlook email, calender and hotmail. Use it as a modem on my laptop when i travel, even works in Japan. A little bit bulky though.

Handwriting recognition -- I use it all the time. For emails and such, it works great. ..better/faster than the slide-out keyboard.
I will also point out that MSFT is way ahead of Apple in the tablet UI. To apples credit, they do get points for 'keeping it simple.' --a very successful approach for their customer base. The ability to flick the screen around, AND cut, paste, copy . . .all with screen gestures is likely too much for the apple user to learn w/o frustration.

The smart phone wars are very interesting to me, but a bit academic now. After the round-robin between a Palm 680 user, AT&T Tilt (WM 6), a Blackberry Curve and an iPhone, it is obvious why each fits with their respective base.
iPhone: iPod owners who wanted to combine iPod with Cell phone - usually rabid Apple fans Blackberry: Cell phone with corporate e-mail - Corporate types who need e-mails before they show up on the PC WM: PDA & Cell phone - Power users who want to be able to do virtually anything with the phone Palm: PDA & Cell phone - Similar to WM users As I read through the articles, it was obvious why each went for what they did. I thought I wanted a Tilt. But, I have had my Palm lifedrive for 2.5 years and I know the biggest limitation on it for me is the lack of a thumboard. I need a phone with a thumboard. I want the tactile response to for dialing. The holy grail of the smart phone would be an iPhone, with both a slide out thumboard and keyboard, and all of the ability to customize that WM or Palm allows. And we cannot forget the scroll wheel from the blackberry. It makes it very easy to scan through text and e-mails. The smart phone wars are like the 1911 vs. Glock vs. Sig wars. Everyone has their favorite, and to each of us, our favorite is the best.

I am holding out for the Neonode N2 ( http://tinyurl.com/2m9ehj ). My friend John has gotten a hold of one and it's truly incredible for its size! But for now I'll keep my trusty old Motorola Q. It's been a good workhorse phone for me.

I have the HTC Apache (VX6800) and the best contact manager is www.pocketcm.com It allows scrolling of contacts like an iPhone. Very smooth and very free. It is all I use to dial phone numbers now.

A few people sent me these links that they swear will improve the typing (I can't type any way, so I'm not sure how big of a deal it will be.

This latest version is really nice. You can narrow it down if you have them filed with company, city, category, ect. It really is a nice piece of software even if (maybe because) it looks like an iPhone app.
You would be surprised how fast it is to scroll through or just run your finger down the left side to jump to each letter of the alphabet. Try it out. I think you will like it.
