M1A Super Match, First 2 shots

Just received my new Springfield M1A Super Match 0.308 (M14) Rifle. Went to the range, ran the elevation 8 clicks above zero, and fired my first 2 shots using surplus Nato ammo. Here is the result

Open sights, 25 yards.

WOW! Right out of the box, offhand, not broken in. I suspect that this will be one very accurate gun.

That is the only military style autoloader I would ever consider owning. I've never been a "black gun" fan, but the M1A has a certain something about it. I like their new SOCOM a lot...

Knights SR 25....

I have one, it was once cheap to feed. oops, mine is only a m1a loaded. A super match, DAMN!

Bill Cinton, and the U.N ruined that

no more 300 round range days

I wish that the Greek 30.06 ammo was OK to use @ my local range.

My Garand hasn't been fired in over a year

oh good another springfield nut! i own the super duper match in u.s.m.c. fiberglass mcmillian stock and stainless hart barrel. and also a SOCOM.

ripped 200 rounds thru both and as time and money allowed both went to phil arrington here local.

phil arrington enlisted in the marines at 18 and has been an armourer for ever.

phil is a camp perry medal winner. phil shoots his elk w/a M1A and a 1903 springfield.

phil builds sniper weapons for military.

phil is very very busy now.

phil makes damn good money.

phil flies from deer valley airport on occasion to see me at our airport where i work.

phil can make your M1A even better. you ask how??? trust me. look at his website arringtonaccurracy.com

phil will do what springfield didnt do. and offers all the goodies. mmmmm good stuff.

happiness is a warm M1A on 1000meter iron sight days!

when you get bored...........buy the springfield 4.5 x 14 illuminated scope and quick detach mount and vaporize gophers from afar. mega fun with federal 168gr boat tails.

I've had a standard Match for five years, I regret to say it's been a gun cabinet queen. When time permits I have of brick of Federal match ammo tune in with.

A widow in California, brought this in to a store to sell.

To bad that it has a giggle switch and is not a registered Machine gun.

I hope that this makes it back to the Army, and gets into the Sandbox instead of being crushed up:mad:

Jack,

If you get a chance, can you shoot me a pm with what the national match cost?

Thanks, one of these has been on my list for a while.

Bill

Mine is a super match, has everything Arrington sells already on it or done to it. I hope it shoots as well as what he produces.

I can't wait till I get to an outdoor range and see what it can do at 200 yards and more. I hope it comes close to my Savage with the 30" barrel I may have posted it before, but here it is again http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200792707.jpg

phil arringtons guns are beyond description. and he stands behind his work. does unreal .45 work also. every wednesday he goes out to ben avery range and test fires and groups all the guns he has built or worked on. talk about some unreal shooting. this guy is beyond excellant.

glad to see the military is finely understanding the need for a sniper in every platoon.

phil has taught me a hell of alot about my springfields. all they eat is federal match 168grain.

both the super duper match and the socom will take "X" out all day long! only variable is my breathing, the wind, and how hung over i am!

Hey great purchase!!! I love my supermatch, Your groups look like my 100yd groups.... I can keep them into the area of a coke can....with open sights.... If you guys get a chance go to the West Texas Armory website.... They have what is called I believe a JAE100 stock that I plan on purchasing for my rifle. IMHO it is the best looking stock made for the M1a.... They have a MCmillan folding stock that I would like to put on a Socom someday also.... Have a looksie.... I have never dealt with the place but they seem rather professional and have good feedback from their customers....

Nice shooting

I'm looking into M1a's lately. Any advice on which model to procure? I was debating between the Standard and National Match. I dont plan to hit anything but paper, mostly just for fun. My dad used one when he was 19, I'd like him to teach me about it.

Which model M1A depends a lot on what kind of shooting you intend to do. For just plinking the standard model is fine, if your going to shoot competition then the supermatch is the way to go. If your on a budget the loaded and match models are compromises. All can be upgraded to the supermatch level, but its sort of like building a 911S Twin turbo out of a stock base model 911, expensive, time consuming and probably not worth it.

It also depends on how good a shot you are, just like driving a race car. If the base model is better than you can drive, then the high end model is money wasted. All are fun.

I am looking for good match ammo or components at good prices. I have been using Lake City Match 72 cases but need tips on best loads (H4895 or Varget or IMR4895??) and bullets (168g Sierra or Hornady A max or 155g Sierra Palma??), best velocity 2550fps, 2750fps or ???
Bullet seating- on the lands, 0.020" off the lands, just oal? To crimp or not to crimp, best primers CCI BR2, or ???
