need "geek" help
 

Ok I know almost nothing about my computer, hence my question.
I recieved an email with 2 pic attachments. They are in gif format (what ever that is) and when I try and open them all I get is some dotted lines. (they are even titled dotted lines)
What gives? is there something I am doing wrong or is the sender yanking my chain.
Any help would be welcomed.

Dang, it's bad when you open a thread asking for "geek help" :). Are the attachments something you don't mind if someone else views? If not, forward them to craverk-gmail.com (replace the "-" with an "@") and I'll take a look.

Often people send those cutesy emails with lines & moving figures etc intermingled with the text. If you set your email to text only (not html) that cutesy crap becomes gif attachments.

Its probably just stationary from their particular email client. For instance in Exchange Or Notes you can set a default background for every email, and when someone outside of that particular client gets that email it just attaches it as a gif or jpeg.

Photo gif's can be fairly large as the compression isn't there like jpg's. If the email is only a few kb, there is really nothing to see. Like others have said, probably html emoticons.

Thanks guys I will just have to believe I was sent a few dotted lines. I checked my settings and they will do HTML, I uploaded IRFANVIEW and came up with dotted lines, I sent it to anothe email acct and got.................yup dotted lines. So I recon, I was simply sent a few .....................................
