Hackers cut Power
One of those small articles in the local paper:
"hackers literally turned out the lights in multiple cities after breaking into electrical utilities and demanding extortion payments before disrupting power, a senior CIA analyst told utility engineers at a trade conference...." All the break-ins occured outside the U.S. Guys, I tried to find a link to the entire story, but my search skills are limited. Details given were very sketchy. Kind of scary stuff, though. Any overseas posters know anything about this? |
should be on AP Newswire - which is online too somewhere
not too scary - I'm used to having the power go off every hurricane season when I was growing up. Later, I spent 8 months a year in the back-country with just a backpacking stove or a fire. I've still got several small stoves and the house has a fireplace... |
Paul - here is a TechDirt Article on it:
http://techdirt.com/articles/20080118/181113.shtml CIA web site may have press release also |
Randy...you can read the entire article, page A-2, this morn's OREGONIAN. If you have a scanner, perhaps you could post it? Sure, no problem surviving a few days without power...but possible terrorism implications. I'm thinking these overseas incidents may have been only a test? Think what a long power outage could do to our already shaky financial markets, business relying on power for computers, etc...

But my neighbor has a generator, and I have a Sig Sauer:) |

ps: HD, his reference is before you probably joined the circus here, but Flatt can spell, and that wasn't a typo. |
