Sites To Check Out In Memphis - Recommendations?
Guys - I will be going to Memphis soon on business and will have a few days afterwards to check out the City and relax, other than Graceland, Beale Street, what do you guys recomend?
Thanks and Regards - Yasin |
Dry rub ribs at Charles Vergos Rendezvous restaurant, 56 S. 2nd Street in Downtown Memphis.
Interstate Bar B Que @ 2265 S. 3rd St. Ronnie Grisanti & Sons Restaurant @ 2855 Poplar Ave. Great Great food. Service is superior for their regular patrons and adequate for the rest of us. Did I say the food is great! Pacific Rim Sekisui for Sushi @ 4724 Poplar Ave. The Memphis Zoo is very nice but it's too cold now. Architectural Antique store downtown on Front street is cool if you are into historic architectural buildings. |
Beal Street - Home of the blues - Great place to party!! Oh ya, We got robbed that night too!! LOL!

+1 on The Rendevouz...across from the Peabody (in the alley) for dry rub ribs and pulled pork...Also while there, catch the "Procession of the ducks" in the morning in the lobby of the Peabody. Take the tour at the Gibson guitar factory (a block off of Beale)...Of course check out the Memphis Belle, ride the streetcars downtown, maybe check Mud Island. Also, please stop in @ St. Jude and make a donation.

The Memphis Bells is gone - Moved to Ohio to resto because it was wasting away on Mud island. I took this in 1985 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200977614.jpg |

Memphis motorsports Park if they're having an event. http://www.memphismotorsportspark.com/
Ducks in the Peabody (make sure you also go up onj the roof top bar to see their digs) Drive down 61 and visit the casinos in Tunica...even if you don't gamble. Nice car collection at the Hollywood casino. If you're a blues fan, drive further down 61 and visit the Blues Museum and Ground Zero (Morgan Freeman's authentic juke joint) and n"the crossroads" where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil in Clarksdale, MS.. |
The Lorraine Motel, where King was assassinated, now the site of the National Civil Rights Museum,
Worth it. |
Graceland - you just got to go to Graceland!!! No matter how lame it is, you got to do it!

To be honest? Graceland is so bad it is great! And for sheer people watching, the parade of folks from all walks of life is astounding, especially foreign visitors. Do it. |
Two pages about Memphis right here, with pics:

Basically what everybody else has said, except cashflyer :)
Plus add Sun Studios, tiny place so a short tour but it is hallowed ground. In what part of town will you be? Jay |
Memphis is home to the #1 ranked team in college basketball, just a thought.

Many thanks for all your replies gang.
Much appreciated and will definitely check out some of your recommendations. Regards - Yasin |
