The ones that exist under the euphemisms of "moral majority", "family values", "Christian nation", "pro-life", "700 club" or any number of others. . .

Any attempt to breach the wall between church and state should be aggressively attacked with any and all weapons at our disposal. Such beliefs are like cancer. If you don't kill it all with overwhelming firepower and "overkill" mentality, it'll resurface over time and threaten to kill our nation. No quarter for such beliefs.

Religious beliefs are fine as long as they're kept in their own arena. Similarly governmental policies are fine as long as they're kept in their own arena. The instant one "crosses the line" and attempts to mix the two, it opens the door. Such beliefs/efforts can (and should) be ruthlessly crushed. For the collective good of our nation and our society.

I mean, when I read it, it seems to me they're saying no federally established church. Was there something specific they were worried about? Something from their past?

Or, maybe instead of saying:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

they should have said:
"Congress shall make no law based on religious beliefs." - this would have surely saved us all many hours of debate...

Maybe we should ban all religious people from any elected position? Seems to be the only sure fire way to keep church & state separated. I mean, a truly religious person would surely allow their religious beliefs to influence their actions.

But wait, wouldn't that restrict the "free exercise thereof"?
