Heath Ledger dead at 28

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/22/heath.ledger.dead/index.html

I didn't see that one coming :(

dd74 01-22-2008 02:36 PM

Yeah, the gay guys here at work are upset. Oh well...SmileWavy

Sonic dB 01-22-2008 02:38 PM

I have never seen any of his films... CNN is reporting that he was found in one of the Olsen Twins apt.s

slodave 01-22-2008 02:39 PM

That's too bad.

Are you two at the same Location: Location, Location ...?

Very sensitive...nice human.

What a waste. He had the world by the tail and everything to live for and this is almost undoubtedly drug related. People that are 28 don't just die of natural causes. Accidents? Yes. Uber rare heart arrhythmias are well...uber rare.

Same here. I couldn't have picked him out of a lineup.

Tishabet 01-22-2008 02:42 PM

I never did see Brokeback Mountain, but I thought he was good in Monster's Ball and Lords of Dogtown.

gprsh924 01-22-2008 02:45 PM

Sad, but very little sympathy for people who OD on drugs.

A few months ago a kid died on my campus and everyone was mourning his loss and talking about what a tragedy it was. Fast forward to the autopsy- he overdosed on Methadone. What an idiot

nostatic 01-22-2008 02:51 PM

met him once. very nice guy. god speed.

Whew...glad you included "apt.s";)

Yeah. "What a waste." I guess that's the sensitive way to put it.

At least I didn't call him an a-hole for chucking away his entire life at such a young age, particularly if it was drug related.

At any rate, the "guys" here at work have calmed down.

Which is good.

Oh well...:p

Fishcop 01-22-2008 03:12 PM

You just can't give some people enough can you?

RIP

K. Roman 01-22-2008 03:16 PM

Too bad Tom Cruise wasn't there for him. :(

M.D. Holloway 01-22-2008 03:19 PM

Sad

JavaBrewer 01-22-2008 03:44 PM

Wow. He seemed like such a charming kid. RIP.

Scooter 01-22-2008 05:37 PM

Sad...good actor and I will assume he was a nice guy in real life. I liked him in the Patriot and Lords of Dogtown. RIP Heath!

KaptKaos 01-22-2008 06:16 PM

The guy left behind a young daughter. My sympathies are with her.

SLO-BOB 01-22-2008 07:01 PM

Wow. We see the best in people here on Pelican, i.e. the outpouring of support for Warren, and the worst, i.e. the callous disregard for a young man's tragic death. The drug/overdose/suicide speculation is, at this time, just that - speculation. There are reports that he had pneumonia and may have accidentally ODed on sleeping pills. Yeah - I guess he had it coming.

What I do know is I have seen some of his movies (not Brokeback) and liked them. One of my wife and kids (and mine) all time favorite movies is Knight's Tale. It's really a lot of fun. The Brother's Grimm was also fun. My family is saddened by his early departure and wish him Godspeed.

As one who will admit to seeing Brokeback Mountain, and one who also thinks it was probably the best movie of 2005, this is sad news. He seemed to have some real talent, and had the balls to take at least one role that most likely cost him other roles, and certainly cost him many fans (if ignorant ones at that.)

Condolences to his family. :(

1fastredsc 01-22-2008 08:57 PM

Wasn't he the one who was going to play the new joker in the dark knight movie?

nostatic 01-22-2008 09:04 PM

He finished shooting that. His last role.

That sucks. It will be hard to enjoy the movie knowing that.

cameron.arnott 01-23-2008 12:25 AM

RIP

He played some amazing roles, a lot of which most people outside of Australia would not have seen.

What a waste.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-23-2008 06:05 AM

I actually had no idea who the guy was until I read the story on yahoo news. Now at least I know who he is, but ultimately it strikes me as just another self-important actor/entertainer/Hollywood type who died from his own excesses. I feel for the guy's family and friends the same way I would about anyone who dies, but the story doesn't really move me. The way people were talking, it was as if we'd lost someone significant, which I don't see as being the case here. Another stupid O.D. loss by an undisciplined individual is all I see, IMHO.

Les Paul 01-23-2008 06:09 AM

It is reported that the role he played as the new joker had him bummed even several months ago. Apparently he was taking sleeping pills big time because the role messed his mind up. Hard to believe it came to this.

There is a little thing called the internet my friend

harryrick 01-23-2008 08:42 AM

Apparently he was suffering from depression and insomnia...there is rumoured to have been 3 prescriptions of sleeping type pills at his home. One from Australia was touted to have adverse reactions with takers...what a waste and a shame. I feel for his family.

At least is wasn't speedballs or crack he OD'd from like other actors living-it-up. Likely a tragic accident. No word on any sort of note re-suicide.

rammstein 01-23-2008 09:07 AM

Its pretty amazing that with no cause of death listed yet, there's a lot of talk about his 'suicide'. Can't the media wait until there are facts before reporting them? I don't know the first thing about the guy, and honestly the story has no bearing on me, BUT... I sure hate to see a guy's life picked apart and cause of death determined based on assumptions.

Geez.

Mule 01-23-2008 09:51 AM

Yeah, that youth, money, fame, good looks must have been more than he could cope with.

For those like me who had no interest in watching a love story about 2 guys, here's Ms. Hathaway.

Why is she looking at me and the wall in the corner of my office at the same time? I'm no where near that corner, but she is still looking at me.

Its borderline justifiable then. :D

Seric 01-23-2008 12:38 PM

Guess 28 is still the magic number in Hollywood.

RIP Heath

K9Torro 01-23-2008 03:36 PM

He also played the oldest son in the Patriot with Mel Gibsonian, I liked alot of his movies. It's a shame, a real damn shame.

The above photo of her (compressed and in shadow) is nothing like the scene of her (with headlights bare AND ablaze!) in the back seat of daddy's car!
