worldwide stock markets and Dow futures plunge

Looks like the markets are down 4-6% worldwide, and Dow futures for tomorrow are down 514 pts.

I guess the subprime meltdown, high energy costs and years of gov't deficit spending have finally hit home.

Buckle your seatbelts!

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

It's about time.

I, for one, welcome some temporary sanity in the markets.

Talk about a dampener on AAPL's earnings report due out tomorrow (their earnings are probably going to be amazing for 4Q).

I'll take that bet, assuming we're talking "to estimates".

Looks like $1.62 is the average.

Watch an infomercial on how to make $8,000, $12,000, EVEN $20,000 PER MONTH!!! WOW!!!

That should solve everyone's problems.

In all seriousness, when we're in the grips of some serious under-valuation, pick up the fundamentals. McDonald's, Coca-Cola, the big-name companies that often get overlooked, but always have a solid business plan (even if it's just 'keep doing what we've been doing') and an affordable product (like a $1 Cheeseburger or a soda). Anything else is speculative (not that I wouldn't dabble here and there in a Chinese battery company or alternative energy or raw materials/commodities like Uranium, Silver, Aluminum or Gold).

I usually avoid tech, pharmacy and airline stocks at all costs. Tech=new thing can make old thing obsolete in one instant, example, i-Phone (watch). Pharmacy=in one instant, a drug can go from good to bad, like Zetia, cholesterol wonder-pill. Airlines=Bin Laden? Bin Laden?? Bueller? Bueller?? or some Heathrow-esque retardation like shutting off the electrical systems of a plane @ 600' above ground, and/or cutting hydraulics that run the fuel pumps. Oh, and make sure to buy loads of cheap real-estate from the subprime loan issue. If you can swing it, buy stock in Berkshire Hathaway ('A' Stock is $131,000 per share).

But yes, I am actually in favor of a market correction. The faster it happens, and with the proper severity, the sooner we get headed in the right direction.

It appears that worldwide markets will not decouple from the US economy, perhaps.

If the US dollar does not collapse, investors may discover "International" stocks lack dazzle.

This is purely speculation, but may hold true.

Tell me how you cope with testicles the size of grapefruits.

I'm thinking of the opposite: Average into SPY. Not yet. The trend is your friend.

GLD or physical may be a play considering the Federal Reserve insatiable desire to drop rates at the first sign of stress (emergency 75 bp rate cut this morning). At this rate, we'll be in negative territory by summer.

Sitting here sipping my coffee, 5:45am. Waiting for markets to open. Bernie just dropped the prime 3/4 of a %. News organizations are going nuts.

God I love a spectacle

This is better than watching lions and gladiators in the Colosseum.

I presume tabs and mother are changing undergarments on a regular basis. That's a sight I'd rather not see, however.

Just heard on the radio that the Federal Reserve Board just cut interest rate 3/4 percent at an emergency meeting.

F***.

I expect the price of oil and other commodities to go through the roof today.

I didn't pull any money out of the stock market as I am in for the long run, but I have been putting money aside to buy in when the bears come marching through.
