Still More Dumpster Finds
Well now I am scraping the bottom of the barrel. On Monday I dropped a long spoon made by Springfield off at Fed Ex and saw a Goodwill Store and said, "OUU OUU I gotta stop and take a look." I don't usually go to Thrifts as I hardly ever find anything worth while. But I saw a nice small Stanley Lower and Upper Tool Chest for $50 and thought I can put all my spoon cleaning and reloading stuff in it so I bought it. No big deal, but they had a nice Datrik Golf Bag for $60 and was told Wednesday was senior half off day so I went back to grab it for $30. Value a coupla hundred plus a few down at the golf store. While there I found the painting as shown in the other thread. So on the way home I saw another Thrift and decided what the he11 I'll stop and I found this nice little Sterling Silver Basket made by Gorham and mongramed 1888-1913. Obviously a wedding aniversary present. So I grabbed it for $1.50. Not much silver weight but worth $100??? Then I saw this old Bag Boy gof cart. I had found one 20years ago in a Thrift, took it home and cleaned it up. What amazed me was that it had 24 cast alumium parts. To make that cart today would be cost prohibitive. The one I found today had something extra to it, a little odometer made of metal to measure the yardage to the hole. A nice trick retro golf piece so for a $8 I took it home...now this maybe a pig in a poke but for $8 I got the odometer which is kinda kool. Anybody want a neat ole Bag Boy golf cart?

Ohh btw Today while at the Thrift I got to talkin to this Black lady from Detroit, we got to takin because she has seen me there the other day. She told me she has an old Daugeotype camera with the steel plate and orginal lens. As well as a few old Winchesters an Percussion Colt....apparently very rare camera, she said she had it looked at by a dealer who said it shoud be in the Henry Ford Museum...quite possibly worth some hugh bank. So I got some research to do to help her out. Maybe with the apparent luck I had today I should just follow her around?

Definitely worth looking into her cache...give her a low ball offer and judge afterwards.
Wish they had stores like that around here.

There you go again Tabs dragging me into it again! I'm sorry, but the secrets out. I'm not financing your hobby/lifestyle any more.
![]() BTW, how do you clean silver? I've found the best way is to fill a pot with water and throw in a piece of aluminum and dump a ton of salt in the water. Put the silver in the water and put it on the stove and boil for a while. It reverses the silver oxide process by plating the oxide as aluminum oxide. No loss of silver. When done, scrub the aluminum oxide of the aluminum with scouring powder. It cleans out the finest engraving detail.

I'm afraid this will now become a way of life for you.
My father-in-law started this 7 years ago and is drastically hooked. |

that is a nice golf cart
Here are my scores: Gopower engine dynamometer, from a $250 pile of army surplus my father bought: ![]() ![]() Worth about 2k as a core, 5+ if I get it working. Was cruising art on ebay and this one caught my eye: ![]() Bought it for $80. Made the frame myself.... see how the frame I made matches the frame behind the lady? Turns out to be a Rita Smith oil on board, worth ~1500-3k. I like it, so I'm hanging on to it.
