I'm waiting to hear on my challenge to a parking ticket. In that case it is even worse - there is no person to look in the eye. I have a photo showing where I was (taken 5 minutes after the ticket was issued) but if the cop writes the wrong address on the ticket (on purpose?), who do you think they'll believe? They'll probably say I saw the ticket, then drove 2 blocks, parked and took the photo.

I realize my comment at the end and the handshake, in hindsight, was not a big deal or that smart. The fact that I am very confident I was not doing that speed is more my issue right now. I called the court house and they do not allow you to contest by mail. I have to appear Feb 6th and enter a plea if I want to contest. Some of you made a good point about the hand shake. The look and reaction on his face did not say "I dont feel comfortable shaking your hand" it was more like "are you serious I dont shake lawbreakers hands" Does that make sense. Again I can see why he may have opted to not shake. So that being said the the discussion with the officer was not heated and I kept a civil tone with him the whole time.{minus the parting comment} My Grandfather retired as a Major from the Tampa Police Department, uncle is a Florida State Trooper and Sister in law works for Ohio State Troopers. I realize there are some good officers out there and sometimes they are tied by red tape of there own. He was human and does make mistakes and in this instance that is what has happened. How do I prove it in court is the question. The Yukon, Denali, Tahoe, and Gmc 1500 are all models that look like my Suburban. How do I create enough reasonable doubt? Enjoying the conversation. Thanks for input cannot wait till April so I can pull out the P-car!! I brought up family that is law enforcment to point out I know that police are human beings as well they are not machines. I never saw grandpa cop I always saw just Grandpa that I loved and looked up to. Who had a sense of humor and turned out some pretty good kids aka my father.

Wow. You're right. What was I thinking? I'm sure a "wife" and/or "employee" have NEVER had a hand in attacking a cop. That never happens.

I don't mind if you disagree with me, just back it up with something more than

And gliderguy, Unless you are a telepath or the officers best friend (and known him for years) I doubt you are equipped to "know" what he was thinking. That leads to assumptions and speculation. Reading about your Grandpa sounds like you think you have some special bond with all LEO. Still sounds like you're making it personal about the snub.

BTW, maybe someone else can confirm but if stopped for more than 20mph over the limit can't you be arrested for wreckless driving? If so, why didn't he cuff you? This may be an angle to check. Maybe the cop was a dick, maybe he got the wrong truck, maybe he just flat out lied. You were stopped for "allegedly" 22mph over the limit. Curious why more was not said about that.

If I said I "know" I stand corrected. It seemed that way not a telepath. cops, doctor, nurse ect there is good and bad people The point about grandfather is that I saw a police officer in a way many do not.....out of the uniform and human. I dont know why things ended up the way they did I just know 47mph was not the speed I was traveling. As I took liberty in reading his body language you have grossly overread into my writing. Maybe we should both take a step back.

Whatever you do, never try to dry-hump 'em. That's a guaranteed 220 volts.

My unsolicited worthless 0.02...

The earlier comments on the "possible prelude to an attack" were the first thing I thought as well. Paranoid or not: most cops are right handed. You shake with your right hand - so you would have control of his gun hand. Again, probably paranoid, but still....

More on line - right or not, you were criticizing him and his judgment. If I stood behind you during a valve adjustment and said "You are doing that wrong. Use the backside method. You sure you got the right feeler? I think you're using the wrong wrench." Then finished it by saying "No hard feelings" and putting out my hand you may or may not shake it, but you'd still think I was a pain.

By the time he pulled you over he had his mind made up to write you for what (in his mind) was a violation he observed. By arguing it you were telling him he was wrong. Best to take the ticket and fight it later.

Laughing at a guy who offered to shake your hand and walking away is discourteous and therefore unprofessional. However, nothing would come out of a complaint filed over that.

Create a well documented case and contest it in court.

Uhhh, you got a Suburban that wont accelerate to 47 MPH almost a 1/4 mile, and it has oversized tires (which will make your speedo read slower than you are going, if we are talking diameter here) , I know you said it had some adults and 1000 pounds of extra cargo, but if it wont get up to 47 in the 1/4 you better trade it in.

Hell a Yugo with 4 adults and 1000 pounds stacked on the roof will get up to 47 in the 1/4, my lame-o-matic Ford F150 towing my P-Car in the trailer will accel up to Interstate speed on the ramp before I merge and I aint talking no big block here.

Not trying to BUST your chops, but maybe you are mistaken if you don't think you can accel up to 47 in the 1/4.

As to the handshake, it's still America last time I looked and no body has got to shake anybodys hand, in this day and time it's almost a forgotten part of Americas greeting, at least with the young people, they would rather ram their knuckles up to your's or some such thing.

Todd :)

Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth. There are good cops out there and bad cops. Some are real jerks and thrive on the authority that goes with the job. Others are good people who are dedicated and have their hearts in the right place. Both types are human and make mistakes just like we all do.

I have a relative who is a LEO. A few years ago he took 3 bullets in the chest during a "routine call." He survived thanks to his vest. The times that I have been pulled over for a traffic stop the last thing I do (no matter which way it goes, warning or citation) is to thank the officer for doing his job. If I have a bad day at work I may loose a client or miss a deadline. If a LEO has a bad day at work he may end up with a toe tag.

Ditto for our military guys. You can disagree all you want about the politics of the war but those guys do their job and put their lives on the line. None of this helps your situation. Was he rude for not shaking your hand? Probably but you don't know what else he had to deal with that day and where his head was at. On the other hand maybe he was just being a jerk.

Ok I am past the handshake. It made for a good headlining-attention-grabber for the post title. The distance was under 2/10 of a mile and it was snowy. So I pulled out from the gas station very slow. Also we were still finding that damn Wendys curse the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger!!!LOL

So I was accelerating, from the gas station, very slowly. Maybe that will not be my best defense. So any other suggestions. Yes my tires are very large BF Allterrain TA's
