I'm a tech idiot--Blackberry help pls

My BB shows that I have an edge signal but I can't connect to the internet or get email. I hate talking on the phone so I thought I'd ask you all first. Thanks for any help I'm about to smash this thing.

Is it a corporate provided BB? I ask because it sounds like it's not yet activated.

Has it ever worked?

gassy 01-30-2008 08:06 AM

Yeah, it's been working fine for 2 yrs then one day it just stopped working. It shows that I have a full signal. I took the sim card out and put it back in but that didn't do anything.

Chances are you IT guys made changes to the server and know it can't locate it. 1st make sure your email account is still valid. If not reenter your password. If that doesnt work try going to options:advance:service books and resend your service books.

Is data reception turned on? Just because you are getting a signal does not mean that the data portion is working. It can be in "phone" mode and still not be receiving data for emails.

Good thinking, there is a "phone only" mode in mine.

JeremyD 01-30-2008 09:38 AM

my guess would be phone only mode -

Yeah, if the charge gets too low they turn automatically off the "Radio" to preserve battery.

gassy 01-30-2008 12:33 PM

How the FVk do you enable the "radio"? I don't even have phone service on it. Sorry for wasting your time--thanks for helping. Jeez.

Radio is definately off or it's broken.

Go to home screen with icons.

Scroll to near end. (Depending on Model)

Icon s/be round and looks kind of like the unicef logo.

If it's off it's grey, Red is on.

Which version of the BB do you have? Color or black and white?

Theres a difference in how to turn the data portion on depending on the model.

Yeah, also can depend on the carrier. My wifes AT&T branded phone does not show certain icons under the AT&T theme that do show up under the stock RIM theme.

If you have the pearl - go to the main screen - click on the button on the left of the track ball - Choose "show all icons" Then look for the one that turns wireless on/off.

cool_chick 01-30-2008 03:28 PM

If the wireless was off, he wouldn't have Edge.

Have you tried resetting it by popping out the battery and putting it back in?
