So who's it gonna be...?

Now that we're down to four, my neighbor, who knows thinks he knows absolutely everything, came round today to bend my ear on the candidates.

Here's what he said:

McCain? Look no one wants a geriatric President. I don't care how many years he was a POW. People want change. A breath of fresh air. And McCain ain't it. That photo of him hugging Bush is the nail in the coffin.

Romney? Religious freedom is OK as far as it goes, but let's face it, anyone who believes anything as absurd Mormonism is not rational. And we want a rational President. Everyone wants a rational president. And besides, everyone hates people who look like Romney.

Clinton? Let's face it she's a bit**. No one really likes pear shaped women, except sometimes other pear shaped women. But she's smart and connected and she has Bill, who's still inexplicably popular. Would I vote for her? Hell no! Would I bet on her. Hell yes! I'd even give odds.

Obama? He's the only likable guy in the bunch. The only guy I'd actually like to spend an evening with. And he's smart. And he's got all the right instincts. And he'd make the best President of the lot. It's just a damn shame he's black, because there are just too many people who'll have a problem with that. Would I vote for him? Hell yes! Would I bet on him? Hell no!

Seemed like a good summary to me.

Yeah, but he's a smoker. --gasp--

livi 01-31-2008 12:34 AM

Even as a for'ner I like that summary. Reminds me of the movie with Gene Wilder. The little town out West waiting for their new sheriff. The old fart up on the roof trying to alert the crowd of the fact that it is a nigg....GONG goes the bell. :D

azasadny 01-31-2008 02:35 AM

McCain is the only one I could vote for...

Rot 911 01-31-2008 05:45 AM

Not sure I can vote for any of them. My vote would just be against Hillary.

MRM 01-31-2008 05:55 AM

McCain's the man. The bad buz around him is the result of the whispering campaign against him from 2000 and before when Bush had to do anything in his power to stop McCain in order to get the nomination. He's old, but so was Reagan.

I couldn't believe it when Laura Bush admitted that she (and GW) were (heavy) smokers too, but I think she said that George had quit :). Ahhh...the images that the politicos like us to believe...

RKC 01-31-2008 07:39 AM

Could vote for Obama or McCain. Not the other two.

But it's not like they just quit. ...Obama often looks like he can't wait for the debate to be over so he can step out an go suck a fag. . .er . . cigarette.

"Blazing Saddles" one of the many classic Mel Brooks movies.

I seem to recall that Laura stated she still does, but George had quit. Are you insinuating that Laura sucks on a fag too :)

Our nation is in far, far more trouble than we can even imagine if picking our president has come down to tenuous nothings such as if a candidate might smoke.

Right off hand, I can only think of about 100 items that might be more important than if a candidate smokes or has ever smoked.

The "smoker" comment that I made was intended to fit at the same level of sophistication as Dottore's. ...but one for Obama.;)

Apparenntly, WI is okay with the childish jab's at the others . . but just don't call Obama a smoker. --not okay.

Edit: what about those huge ears?

So what has become of this nation? Once it was a place of Freedom OF Religion, now the theme that sells is Freedom FROM Religion.

I'm a very secular guy myself, but I find these attacks on anyone religious pretty poor.
