This guy usually is hilarious, and an idiot, on Top Gear on BBC America. I guess this time more of an idiot. I would love to see a Jag from the same year on the road let alone withstand any of the tests.

I saw the episode where he almost creamed his pants over the new Jag XK Conv. He said it was better than BMW 650 Conv and Mercedes SL 350 (we only get the daddy 550 over hear).

Sad part is when they burnt it, it pretty much even killed the parts car aspect.

yep - clarkson has been getting bashed on the porsche boards for that segment for many years now. He famously hates 911's...claims the engines are in the wrong place. His beef is as much with the germans as it is with the 911.

These days he bashes the americans pretty good. I saw an episode recently where they took a road trip in $1000 beaters from florida, through alabama into new orleans. The segment in alabama was priceless, and sorry, but the locals came off looking like fr%$kin red neck morons.

It is a shame about the longhood, but this clip was shot along time ago, back when longhoods weren't as rare or valuable as they are now. Its all in the name of entertainment and I for one think the show is hilarious.

The show's great, but I think he went too far with this clip...I've seen it several times and it makes me cringe...which is why I've never watched it much...

I kinda looked at his attempts to kill that 911 as a backhanded compliment; he simply cannot kill the darn thing, no matter what he tries. In the end, he has to drop the friggin' thing from a crane in to a trailer filled with explosives to get the job done! As much as he procliams how much he hates the 911, he'll always know deep down inside that the only way he could beat it, was to play dirty...

what a wanker... and they always talk about what Americans will do for tv ratings. at least when we wreck nice cars, we usually just use replica's...

It's a carrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!! it's not as if they only made 50 of these things or he was destroying a rare "rsr" or "rs" .

Makes me feel proud being a Porsche owner that he had such a hard time destorying it!!

And let's face facts here, however much I love my car, the ergonomics are terrible - a switch here, a switch there, switches throught the steering wheel by the gauges, switches under the dash - crazyyyyyyy lol

God I love my car - especially cause it's engineered so well that Clarkson cant easily destroy it.

We need to lighten up if we can't have people poke fun at us or the cars we drive.

Matt

I saw that episode yesterday. It was pretty scary! I think they're lucky "her boys" didn't come chasing after them!

I think we Americans came out looking worse than rednecks. I wonder if it was staged, or if people are really that awful. If so, we should be ashamed.

Don't feel so bad, we have plenty of mutants back in the UK as well - you do have better names for them here though - "billy bob job bob knob" as I like to remind my wife

i heard a rumour that clarkson broke his wrist bashing that poor 911 into the building. Serves him right on that one

he did another Dr Destructo with a toyota diesel pick up- after it was put on top of a building set for implosion, it was dragged from the debris and the darn thing still drove ! Then it was off to the sea where it was left for a high tide to claim it. That it did, but still started up after the techs cleaned out the engine and fuel system. You see it from time to time as a backdrop in the show.

My favorite over the top episode was turning a reliant robin into a scaled version of the space shuttle. (it didn't make it, but was pretty spectacular)

They do some really stupid things (on purpose) and its slick production value is fun. Still was a shame to see the 911 end its days

I love that this video comes up here on Pelican Parts every few months. Its a great video, and as much as Clarkson dismisses the 911, he also pays it plenty of backhanded compliments, in this video and in most other Top Gear episodes where one appears.

I look at it this way, my other favourite car is a GTR, and while I can't see how anyone could dislike it, I mean 0-60 in 3.3, 7:35 around the Ring, lots of guys on this website heap scorn on it. Logical? Nope. People just have their likes and dislikes, and not always for rational reasons. If he paid for the 911, he has every right to do what he wants with it, even if he wants to drive it into a wall.

Clarkson probably prefers the British cars that have won LeMans in the last fifty years or so.
