Homeowners Insurance claim
We were burglarized a month ago tomorrow. Put in a claim with my homeowners, Bankers, the following Monday and have yet still to get a settlement. Have been in contact with the group that handles the values of the items stolen, they received the police report. Is it standard to take this long?

Sorry about the loss! It does take what seems like an eternity to get your check. You should have your agent monitor the whole process including when check has been cut. The sad thing is you really don't know how good your insurance is until you have to file a claim.
The fact that they have to contact the police and play phone tag is a tenuous exercise... Good luck!

A good practice it to walk around with a digital camera describing everything of value in your house and then copy the file and store it off site. I live in a fire zone and this is a must. Not just for contents, but the house itself.
