My vote is for the Cayman S
Oh yes, we have one... |
My wife is a convertable fanatic. We currently have two, both with hard tops for our grey winters.
I think convertables make more sense here in the Seattle area than most other areas- When the sun comes out, I want all I can get! That being said, for myself, I may get a Cayman when prices drop a bit further. As long as we have at least one convertable, I'd rather have a Cayman as my DD. |
Whichever one you decide, you are going to do the traditional "let the neighbors take it for a spin", right? ;)

Don't let THAT stop you?

If it was me, I would go with an "S" for either one. I know, I know, the base model has plenty of power.....but.....you know every time you pull up to a Boxster or Caymen and you have your base model, your going to feel slightly inferior. Hate to feel like you "settled" for a car that cost that much. I would either buy an older Boxster S or a Caymen that has a few more miles on it. If anything, I have heard frequently that the Caymen can use and handle more power then the current S has to boot.
|
Am I missing something? Why should the base Cayman handle different than the base Boxster????
And as I said before, go for the S. Convertibles give you lots of UV exposure. Bad for the skin. (Not kidding, I used to be a ragtop guy but was getting fried every summer). George |

If you want a Convertible Experience, and like that (on balance) in the PNW, find yourself a nice 911SC targa. (if that doesn't sort it out for ya, I don't know what will)
|
You can really haul ass in all the targa tops I ever rode in and not get blown around too much with the windows up, they are a lot stiffer than a totally open car too.
I always put high number sunscreen in the door pockets of the convertible bug, get two for one deals and toss the other one in Dad's 911 carrera cab. Not much of a hat guy, either one of us, maybe that is why we both still have hair |
I prefer the caymen but I'm going to wait for the convertable version to come out ;)
|
you have to drive it. The only reason I'd ever buy a Boxster would be to turn it into a BSR spec race car. I hate convertibles.
A woman I was dating bought a Cayman S. She asked me to drive it through the Malibu hills to show her the cool roads. Great car. Surprisingly heavy clutch though (much stiffer than my SC). Sweet handling and pretty livable as a daily driver with the hatchback. I don't think I'd spend $50K for one though. I'd rather buy a 914/6 and use the rest of the money for other things... |
