anyone here know DC's Don & Mike

radio show? if so are they really your "radio gods"? its a east coast drive time show carried by stations all over the country. i happen to listen to it live on the left coast from noon to three driving from inspection to inspection. sometimes i will take the long way around to catch the close of a bit. i have been listening for about 10 years and love the stuff. anyone else here a "listener"??

I listen to them for at least a few minutes whenever I'm home. They were never the Radio Gods to me, but sometimes they are funny. In general they whine too much IMO. For some reason I think the phone ringing sound they play is hilarious, no idea why but I love it.

They dont hold a candle to Stern in my book.

I used to listen since 85 when they were on a top 40 station in the am. It's REALLY REALLY going down hill. They were in their hey day about 10 years ago. The FCC, Don's ego, target demographics, and radio "consultants" have killed the show. Too much Robbay. Way too much.

The saddest thing was when Don's wife died. She had been a big part of the show and was killed on the Eastern Shore by a reckless driver.

I was very impressed with how they continued on during that time. It was humbling to hear him talk about his late wife, she seems to have meant a lot to him. Even now he'll bring her up sometimes, I dont know how he does it.

Funny Steve, I remember them when I was ~12 and they were huge back then.

his wifes name was frieda, that was some sad stuff when she passed. i teared up his 1st time back on when he spoke of it. she was on the show by phone 3 or 4 days a week so as all players on the show you seem to almost know them. she really kept don in check and thats gone now. his ego is pretty big and can kill an episode in a hurry. she seemed to quell that a bit. i do like buzz a bunch and some of mikes impressions are better than the original being copied. i find robbaaay to be good enough to stay with for a while.

what about don telling how he ran his own dog over backing out of his driveway the day after it happened.? he was boo-hooing a bit that day.

helps kill an afternoon.

I really though that was going to be the end of the show. But I guess radio is all he has. Mike has the dreadful O'Meara's restaurant. (It's close to me, should do a locals gathering. :D)

Yeah Freida did balance it out. Missed the dog thing, but heard about it. I just listen to O&A now, I can't take another Elvis's colon was 40 lbs when he died or Hamburger James story. Before the Janet Jackson thing, the show was awesome. When Infiniti put the brakes on, it tanked big. Then all of Don's hissy fits and contract negotiations.

Check out dcrtv.com...local radio blog, they talk about D&M all the time.

I listened to them as a morning show in 1986-1988 when I was still in high school. I think they were on a station, WAVA?, in the DC area.

"Get yer crack outta the sack!!!"

First thing they used to play in the morning was this

"Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter (Tim Matheson): [whispering] Germans?
Boon (Peter Riegert): Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks hard] the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! "
