another open letter to OT

OK, a few threads have gotten somewhat out of hand with name calling and some rather rude posts/comments. Can we all just dial it back a bit? For the record, my take on things is that I don't really have an issue when somebody says something is idiotic. I do have an issue when they call someone here an idiot (Bush and Hillary are fair game, as they don't post here). It is akin to when I umpired/refereed. My rule on the field was simple: you can say whatever you want about my call. The minute you say something about me you're gone.

And if you've ever played sports, you've no doubt heard the phrase, "second foul is the one that gets called." Why not be a bigger man and not stoop to their level?

I'm not a kindergarten teacher. I'm not going to read through every bit of tripe people post. I have other things to do (shocking I know) and am not compensated in any way, shape or form for moderating. I'm requesting that you not call people names (or discuss gerbil-related habits). I don't really care if they called you a name first. That defense doesn't work with my 11 year old and it certainly shouldn't work with an adult.

I am free to call myself a poopyhead at any time however.

Good points nostatic

tcar 02-03-2008 07:19 PM

Thanks for posting that...

I've spotted most of these threads from a mile away and have tried to steer clear.

Racerbvd 02-03-2008 07:23 PM

Point taked & noted, and yes you did see pigs fly.
BTW, I am avoiding the type of post as you suggested:D

Hugh R 02-03-2008 07:38 PM

My rule (actually its more of a guideline) is that I won't post stuff that I wouldn't say to a person's face. Chill out here guys. I can find lots of sites where everybody curses everyone else. That's easy. Finding a, sort of, civil site is hard.

futuresoptions 02-03-2008 07:42 PM

Are you having to smash pumpkins again???

WI wide body 02-03-2008 07:44 PM

What's your point?

Just kidding!:D

Well, as those here who have met me will tell anyone, I am me, I don't type any thing that I wouldn't say, and that goes with apologizing for some of my actions too, as I'm pretty sure that I may be part of the reason for this thread. Which is what I am publicly doing, as I did cross the line (and I deleted the post) but the thread was locked. So if anyone was thinking censorship, it wasn't, just me censoring myself. Nost, sorry for making your job less fun & more work.

Byron

Oh my God, oh my God, you really are a moderator, but youre the worst of all, especially when you called Tabs a white n-word.

Oh yeah, cursing, trolling, hating saying things that most of them wouldnt have the guts to say in real life. I suppose in that regard the Internet can be cathartic because it "enables and empowers" people to be able to contribute...but the internet can also be a great cesspool of hate, unfortunately and imo, this type of thing still being in its infancy will eventually spread into general society in the next 10-20 years making us even more segregated and fearful of others than we (humans) already are.

Leave to nostatic, the bass player to remind us of this...
but as any good bass player he is calm, rational cause he needs to be to
stay in the pocket.

I do my best Bill :p

Byron, I would gladly buy you a drink. Widebody too. Although maybe not at the same time in the same bar.

Although I'm feeling a pay-per-view possibility. Hmm, let me talk with my productin partners...

You only say that because you know what I do to fund my hobby, and what it takes, since you are in te Biz:D
Honestly, some very good friends are from the same stat, aND if you look, I have reached out, in a good way, to no avail, as respectto anone wh lives in a state with no real legal drinking age and that does brew some great beers, but some let the Old Mill water pisswater lead them.

Funny, I am here almost daily and I still miss the exciting threads. Must be a language problem with me. Or worse, I belong to the offending party without realizing it!

Sapporo Guy 02-04-2008 03:34 AM

lolo, livi, I think I'm with you on that one :)

however, recently, I've tried to tone down ... I don't think I've gone too far with some swear words but just in case ... I'm still trying to censor myself :(

I was wondering about a mod to the forums. Like they have for movies.
Add a few icons for the thread icons. That way they can be set with the original poster or later turned on by a moderator.
This might help folks who read with their kids or at work.

Speaking of reading with kids, I hope those parents visit these threads with apologies. It might help the little ones that even "grown ups" know when they should do the right thing.

Anyway, just in case -- sorry :(

onewhippedpuppy 02-04-2008 04:06 AM

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/dom.gif I agree wholeheartedly. Because of course, I am in no means part of the problem.;)

craigster59 02-04-2008 04:52 AM

So, if you say you're a "poopyhead" and I agree that you are, does that apply to the "second foul" rule?...

VINMAN 02-04-2008 05:03 AM

This is the primary reason I avoid the political/socio-eco stuff. ***** gets way too personal.

Now, now, now. You're not a poopyhead.
YOU'RE A GOL DURNED #!&)%*!? &&%!
(can I say that?)

nostatic 02-04-2008 06:50 AM

no, I find "durned" to be offensive, as it is a derogatory term for the Durns of lower Freedonia. Please try to be more sensitive.
