Spears DeathWatch Update - 1/31/08

I'm hoping for her sake that this was voluntary. . .

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/31/britney.spears/index.html

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A police motorcade the length of a football field escorted troubled pop star Britney Spears to a Los Angeles hospital early Thursday to get her some help, a law-enforcement official told CNN.

This is the second hospital visit for Spears this month, coming after her psychologist called the police, according to the Los Angeles Times.

She was removed from her home for a "mental evaluation hold," according to the L.A. Times.

The North Hollywood Police Department sent about eight officers to Spears' hilltop house in Studio City, California, about 12:55 a.m. Thursday, according to the law enforcement official, who asked not to be identified because he's not authorized to comment publicly.

The group at Spears' house included plainclothes officers, motorcycle police, ambulance crews and some police "brass," the official said.

It took the better part of the day to arrange the transport plan, the officer said.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the pop star was taken to UCLA Medical Center. On January 3, Spears was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she reportedly underwent a psychological evaluation.

Andrew Blankstein, a Los Angeles Times reporter who was at the scene of Thursday's incident, told CNN that a police convoy, stretching the length of a football field, accompanied the ambulance as it drove down Coldwater Canyon Boulevard -- in part to keep the paparazzi from getting too close.

Spears was whisked out a side entrance to her house.

"You couldn't really see what was going on [when officers first swept into the residence] but on the police radio, there was some reference to 'The package is on the way out,' 'We're leaving now. Go, go, go,'" Blankstein said.

A few hours earlier, two officers were sent to investigate a report of a large group gathered outside the singer's home, said David Grimes, watch commander for the west division of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The two officers found 20 to 25 people near the house around 11 p.m. Wednesday and they asked them to leave, he said.

ABC-TV host Barbara Walters reported on Monday's "The View" that she had been contacted by Spears' manager and "good friend," Sam Lutfi, who told her the pop star has seen a psychiatrist and "is suffering from what he describes as mental issues which are treatable," according to The Associated Press.

During Spears' earlier hospitalization, in addition to the psychological evaluation, she was examined for possible influence of alcohol or drugs. Police had been called to her home that night to mediate a custody dispute.

A day later, a California court refused to grant Spears visitation rights with her two children -- Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1 -- at least until mid-February.

Spears has been in a heated dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline over custody of their sons. Federline, Spears' former backup dancer, holds primary custody of the children.

Spears has been in trouble with the court earlier concerning her compliance with court orders in the custody case.

After filing for divorce in November 2006, Spears was frequently seen enjoying Hollywood nightlife. Her behavior became increasingly erratic; in February 2007, she shaved her head as paparazzi looked on, then spent a month in rehab.

It just goes to show how barbaric we as humans can be or are. We all want to watch this sorry soul crumble and die. She has bipolar disorder and needs to be treated. All the money, fame and attention, immaturity, and drugs need to seriously be controlled. She should secretly move to Montana and receive her treatment there.

Ummmm, so I don't live in LA, but don't the police have better things to do? You know, like solve rapes, murders, robberies, etc?

I saw 4 motorcycles cops behind the ambalance taking her to the hospital on TV this morning. So maybe there will be less speeding tickets to Pelican members today?

In a sense, considering they are probably the majority tax payers in the area.

ok, so she was "committed". The first article didn't indicate that. Now the state has the responsibility to stabilize her and evaluate her.

And they wonder why more and more of us stop watching what is laughably called "NEWS" on television.

Fine. She has bipolar disorder and needs to be treated. She also has A TON OF MONEY, and ALL THE RESOURCES to get it treated, except a good friend or family member.

Like many celebrities, she cleaned house and alienated most of the people who tried to help help her set limits on her behavior years ago--her family included. (Much like Michael Jackson.) She only kept people around who were either kissing her ass or equally irresponsible. Think about it, if you have a few old friends telling you to limit your drinking and a few new friends who think you are the greatest person in the world with no faults, who are you going to gravitate towards? It's human nature.

But when you are surrounded by people who only tell you how great you are, you start to believe it. You start to believe you have no faults and can do no wrong.

Make no mistake, this is a sad story. I really hope she can pull through. Hollywood is full of people who didn't, but there are also quite a few Drew Barrymores too.

There's no way you can tell that from what you've read or seen. As someone who has a wife with mental health issues, I can tell you one of the things that pisses me off are people who "diagnose" others without knowing what the hell they are talking about.

She could suffer from any one of or a combination of things: schizoaffective disorder, bi-poler, schizophrenia, or something as simple as a nervous breakdown.

Let's just say "she has issues" and leave it at that, shall we?
