godaddy is damn cheap. Currently I'm at 15Gig storage, 200Gig transfer/mo. godaddy for *less* money is 100Gig storage, 1000Gig transfer.
Anyone other than Rob using godaddy and have any issues? Looks like I can choose a linux server and should have the ability to install my own apps. Seems that email is a separate add-on though...I'm not sure what the story is with that. |

nostatic - just get a linode and be done with it... only limits will be disk space and bandwidth...

My friend has a fairly rudimentary website, but he has never had any problems with it.
He has used godaddy.com for the last 3 years or so

I use godaddy for registration and for some small hosting jobs. Great prices and lots of control over the domains/hosting.
Excellent customer service, and like Rob said, you can get a human on the telephone. Check them out. Best, Kurt |

Used Network Solutions for years - no troubles.
Used a few over the years. All went belly up. Best in 1990's was a company called XOR in Boulder, I believe. |

More Info on Network Solutions plans.
I've used Abobe GoLive/LiveMotion and CS forever, it seems. Run 4 smallish websites....though one is for a $2M company. Last edited by RKC; 02-06-2008 at 12:48 PM.. |

Glad you checked it out. They make it easy to transfer domain names too. I wouldn't worry about the email accounts; they try to upsell you for extra and don't tell you that for each hosting account you buy, you get 20 or so free email accounts with that domain extension. I have hundreds of email account options. I did upgrade my one account that I use mostly, it was only a few bucks and it brought the email account up to 200Gigs. I got turned onto these guys from a web master in Calgary; unbelievable how much cheaper they were at that time; I haven't shopped around since, but I've been with them for years and no challenges. Let me know if you need any help; otherwise their customer service is very good too. Cheers buddy! |

The only downside I see to godaddy is they don't offer IMAP email accounts. That's pretty important for me.

Yes they do Don. (IMAP)
I can access my email from any PC? Once I download them into my outlook, they are cleared off the server, but if I'm away from my PC I can access any of my email accounts. I don't often do this, because I use a handheld HTC too, but you 'can' do it. fyi, cheers! |

Rob - I don't think godaddy has imap. I looked in support, they only support POP3.
Kurt - forwarding to a google account means you lose your domain, right? That's also a non-starter. Too bad, seems like a good price.

Don - you can forward mail to google and in google you can define the reply-to, etc. so it appears as if it all came from your domain.

Ah - I see. Doesn't that sometimes trigger spam filters when the reply domain and mail server are different?

Don - it shouldn't. Of course, if you control your DNS you can set up SPF records showing that mail from your domain can come from google or your ISP...

i don't use imap now with my current host so that is a non-issue. godaddy is about 10x more for less money. Not sure how they do it. linode is a bit much for me. I don't want to go back to my days of having to rtfm to recompile apache, etc. I want someone else to do it and i'll just install my cms and use phpmyadmin and other gui tools to tweak.
