Autocross simulation game?

One of my customers works for a company that does racing game stuff...car and game design, and what else I don't know. We started talking about racing sims and such when I checked out the URL in his email....and I mentioned that I though there's be a market for a good Autocross simulator with flexible car setups, track layout, and all the good stuff a good sim should have.

Anyone here think a good AutoX sim would sell?

This company has worked on the Project Gotham games, Sega Rally Revo, and others...

I think with today's racing sims, that an autoX feature added to the game would do well, but not as a game alone.

Yep.

a/x alone would be a dud.

Boring. Nothing to crash into and no other cars to push off the track and destroy. I quess you can tell my interest in games.

Already does, Forza.

We have enough trouble selling WRC games in the US.

Auto-x by itself would be worse than a dud.

Hmm, if it allowed the drivers to over protect themselves with fire proof race suits and nomex gauntlet gloves it might sell:D

berettafan 02-07-2008 06:03 AM

Yup, rape and murder is what sells games here.

Check out QuakeRally - a mod for the original Quake/QuakeWorld for network play, you get cars with GUNS and ROCKET LAUCHERS!!!

I'll agree with everything here: nice side feature, but it'll never sell. NFS5, a fantastic physics engine, wouldn't sell without the "Run from the cops" portion, or the "Race on open roads with oncoming traffic" option. I, personally, would love an AX simulator, especially if I could adequately model my own car, and had the capability to make modifications to the layout. e.g., you have a parking lot, just like most AX setups do, but you can move the cones around however you want.

If I was serious about keeping in shape in the off-season, I'd build AX tracks in rFactor -- fully extensible, totally modifiable so it feels just like your own car at your local track.

So the bottom line: no money there, unless you can build rFactor tracks for donations. Sorry.

... Am I the only one who wears a helmet and nomex gloves when I play driving simulators? :)

If you made the cones people and they went shooting up into the sky, or over your hood when you hit them - then maybe.

Maybe that would be the game - you design your car - then you get to pick the ethnicity of the folks you want to "stage" your autocross.

This one is supposed to do it and can have customized tracks added. I think one or two of the locals around here have used it to try new layouts.
