SnoDrift Rally 08 - Michigan

The SnoDrift Rally is coming up January 25 (Fri) and 26 (Sat) 2008 in Atlanta Michigan - small town about 20 minutes east of Gaylord, 3 hours north of Detroit.

Official website here:

http://www.sno-drift.org/

This is a GREAT time. There are numerous spectator stages and the paddock is fully accessible to check out the cars up close. Last year, there were 2 911's entered. This is part of the Rally America series - the premiere series in North America - and is the first rally of the year. Travis Pastrana, Ken Block, et al will be there.

We've got a group going up probably Thurs night or early Fri morning. So if anyone's interested, reply here or PM and we'll try to hook up.

Here's a video from the season finale in Houghton a couple of months ago:

Some video from the rally. The first video was shot by some guys from Detroit's 356 Mafia standing basically right next to us on Stage 11. First car thru is Travis Pastrana. Second car is a custom AWD Hyundai Tiburon built by John Buffum's shop (it's for sale for $60,000) and they ultimately won the rally.

Pastrana was in the lead with only a few miles to go .... this is how the Hyundai won ... turn up the volume

Most of the teams use those type stands. They basically have a jack tube similar to the 911, except there's 2 in the rear and 2 in the front. There's a shaft welded onto the stand that is inserted into the tube. How cool would that be on a 911 to be able to set it up on 4 jack stands like that?

Here's another nice detail. A snow-scraper for the wheels. I could have used these yesterday after my 5 hour drive through a severe blizzard. Ice build up on the inside of my wheel made it become so unbalanced, it felt like I either had a flat tire or the wheel was falling off! I had to stop twice to clear the ice.

And then there's the trunk-mounted king-size washer fluid reservoir:
