This was not a LoPresti Fury... it was an original Globe GC-1B from the late 40's. The owner/pilot bought it around 14 years ago as a derelict that had been sitting since 1965. He spent all his time and went through all his money, a marriage, and a few girlfriends while restoring it. It was pristine.
I personally don't think the plane is economically rebuildable now. Plus, there will be a significant emotional hurdle to rebuilding this. My guess is that it will be bought by members of the Swift museum and then parted out.
If there is anything good about this, it is my understanding that he had it "properly insured". Many people undervalue their antique airplanes due to the insurance costs.
