My dad was trained to fly the P47, obviously they started out with single engine trainers and worked there way up to the P47.

He has a lot of interesting stories (met my mom while stationed in Kansas).

One story is how they brought back some P40's from China and let them fly them.

Think about that for a minute...

Turning loose a bunch of 18 year olds in some beat up old P40's... amazing they survived.
