Probably a 428 single four-barrel engine for which Shelby got into hot water with customers. They paid for 427 side-oiler NASCAR engines but the Ford suits (and probably Shelby too) were cost-conscious and thought the side-oiler was a waste of engine for a street car.

^^^Comedian Mort Sahl going for a test drive with Ken Miles at the LAX facility. Very early Street 427 with GT-40s, side-oiler and original narrow hips. Car was stolen while Sahl was doing a gig in San Francisco.
