My dad and I used to watch transient F-4Js (probably from Miramar, etc.) come down the Estuary on Friday afternoons and land west on two-five at Alameda back in the late '70s.  He worked at the Tribune and we'd go up to the Roof Garden (cafe) and watch them howl down final.  Then I flew in there several times in the USAF in both T-38s and KC-135Rs.  Loved doing VFR tours in the T-38 at 1000 AGL all over the north bay.
