Land Rover Defender to get a Final Edition by SVO

The next generation Defender is due sometime around 2016. Image of the DC100 concept used for illustration only........................

The brand has already confirmed that the next generation of the Defender will be launched next, following the Range Rover and Discovery. Reports say that the car will feature a modern design, monocoque chassis, and latest off-road technologies, which is space age to the hardware that the original Defender used throughout its lifespan.

It actually became one of our first tankers. Here is a KB-29 refueling another KB-29:

Some had the fixed boom, others had the drogue. Oh, and the TU-4 went out of service in the '60's.

The highly promoted and showcased DC100 concept (as seen in the sketches above) were only ever meant to be a concept. Well that’s the official line anyway. JLR devoted a huge amount of time and resources building a small fleet of these and dragging them all over the world to be shown at various car shows and media events. Then, possibly as a result of the overwhelming reaction of “No thanks!” from almost everyone who saw them they were quickly demoted to ‘concept-only’ status. Phew!......................

Although*Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Design Director, promised us that*“people will recognise it is a Defender” we can be*100% certain that current Defender fans will gladly argue this point until the end of time. The new Defender*will not be a rugged, utilitarian, go-anywhere, unstoppable beast that we associate with the current Defender.

Land Rover design boss, Gerry McGovern, told Automotive News Europe the new Defender is "not far away" and it will appeal to faithful Defender enthusiasts. However, he said it will also court a new generation of buyers. "The anticipation is incredible," he said, but offered no further details into the vehicle's launch. The Defender has long been rumored to return in 2018.

Previous reports peg Land Rover to be working on five different variants of the new Defender: closed and open three-door versions; a five-door version with third-row seats; and two- and four-door pickup versions. The Defender's new platform will also reportedly be an aluminum-intensive unibody design. Still, it's expected to feature a live axle setup and a low-range transfer case with two differential locks.

Jeff is correct except the plane in the first photo is a B-50 (the R-4360 radials are the giveaway).

I'll buy all of this but what is up with the prop distortion that mimics digital artifact?

The shutter on a conventional SLR camera is a sliding curtain, not an opening and closing iris?

Sweet ride. My friend's dad bought a Datsun 1500 in 1963 in Garden Grove, CA. He was a big shot with Polaroid and got an advance issue. It might have been the first one in SoCal. He let his kid drive it, my friend. We smoked MGB's but not Austin Healey 3000's. No 4-banger could keep up with it. It ate my dad's 356 C for lunch. Your car could be that one. Look for LoBue if you do a title search.

Maybe someone took a digital photo of a 8mm film being shown?
